Ok, so i'm a little bit behind with the whole journal and have some catching up to do! Stay with me...
On Thursday 20th Dec we went to the Driving Creek Railway and Potteries. Basically it was just a train ride up to the top of a hill but the views over the Coromandel were awsome. The train ride was fun too as the driver was quite entertaining and there were lots of little things to see on the way up. The next day the van was due in at the garage toget a warrenty of fitness (WOF). For the few hours that the van was in the garage we walked around bitting our finger nails at the thought of what could potentially need fixing! We were so relieved when we returned to the garage and the woman told us that Ollie had passed and the only thing we had to pay for was the actual test! It must 'av been Christmas!!!
On Saturday morning (22nd) we moved from Tide Water tourist park to Shelly Beach Holiday park which is about 5km out of Coromandel town. Tide water was in a better location and was cheaper but Shelly beach is...on a beach and was really nice. In the afternoon we went to Waiwera Waterworks which was great fun. It was a park full of strange waterworks like a clock that was powered by water and a music box. We had a boat race which Neil won and then we had fun on a couple of flying foxes, on of which Neil nearly came flying off! We also had a few water fights so we were totally soaked. (Make sure to check out the videos when i eventually get them on!)
CHRISTMAS DAY!
Did all of our Christmas shopping the day before Christmas eve, naughty i know, in a town called Thames, about an hour south of Coromandel town. Christmas Eve itself was pretty uneventful apart from a meal out and a few drinks. Christmas day was spent at the campsite, of course driving was not allowed! After we had opened all of our presents we had breakfast and then played cricket for a while. Had a photo shoot on the beach as it was very weird having a hot Christams day! We sat on the beach with drinks and card games before having lunch which was bbq prawns and samon with loads of cheeses and dips etc. After lunch we headed back to the beach with a kite that was a Christmas pressie from Rach. That was fun until it got wrecked in the sand because it wasn't really windy enough! I think we pigged out too much at lunch because we ate dinner at about 9.30pm and even then we weren't really hungry for it. It was BBQ chicken with veggies; the closest we could get to a normal dinner! I don't think we saw a turkey once! We got a little bit of rain in the evening but by all accounts we were pretty lucky because apparently it always rains on Christams day! So, Christams day was quite eventful for us but the people around us didn't seem to be that bothered. Hardly anyone had any decorations up, nor did they seem to be celebrating. One guy who told me that we looked after ourselves was cooking burgers in the microwave for his kids! I think he thought we must eat that much everyday!
Boxing Day unfirtunately was pretty boring. The weather was rubbish so we couldn't do any of the things that we had done the day before. So, we spent the day musing around and finishing the left over food from Christmas Day.
