Working in Christchurch didn’t really work out for us; I was moved to Neil’s bar which was really really quiet and drove me made because it was so boring. It was good that we were working together in the same place but it was really hard to save money living in the city, especially when we were only getting paid $12 an hour. We had met up with some Italian friends which was fun while it lasted but they couldn’t find any work in Chch and so moved to Blenheim to work on the vineyards (urgghh!). We have made some nice friends in Chch, Alex and his girlfriend Kelly, PJ, Sara, Jayde, Sarah, Bari and Dixie (omg, Dixie…we will never forget Dixie!!!) oh and Ollie who played a lot of great live music. But, I have to admit, we were really excited when we got a phone call from a guy who runs a hotel near the Cradrona ski field asking us to come work for him. (On the way from Queenstown to Christchurch we had dropped in to hand in some cv’s and we really didn’t think we’d hear anything from him but…). And so we gave our notice to our employers in Christchurch.
So last week we worked our last week in Christchurch! We had booked the weekend of the 21st/22nd off for my birthday and we also had tickets for the England vs All Blacks Rugby game! On Saturday night after our last shift we dressed warmly and made our way to the stadium. The atmosphere when we arrived was awsome; there were heaps of fire works and it was awsome to see the Haka live!! We had seats with a friend of ours, Bari from Argentina. Not long into the game we realised that we weren’t gonna win-we were getting thrashed! And after about 70 minutes I was ready to leave! After the rugby we went out for a few drinks and Lordships was actually busy for a change! Can’t remember much of the night but I know we had a good time…! We woke up quite late on my birthday but suprisingly I felt fine! We went to the cinema and out for a meal which was nice cos we don’t do it often enough living on NZ wages! And then we went to say all of our final goodbyes in Lordships.
