Dear all, hope your day has been swell!
We sit back, relax and get ready for the exciting episode you are about to witness! " PREVIOUSLY ON BLOG...set up itinery for really busy day etc etc..." WELL. We got up at the ungodly hour of 7 this morning! I mean we on holiday for gooness sake, its obscene. We launched ouselves into the day however, marching off to teh bus station to catch the number 150 bus to go and see the salt mines! oh yes mines of salt where they mine salt and when you go you have to wear funny little salt siuts to protect you from all of the salt. salt. We were very purposeful about getting this number 150 bus as we had bougt nour card that gets us into places for cheaper and we had read in the book (that we may have taken after some room mates offskied to another country without it) that this bus takes you there, 5 minute journey. we got on the bus, 15 minutes passed, 40 minutes came (we travelled trhough picuresque austrian countryside depicted in the pic). This is when we realised the only day that we had planned was straight down the pan before 10 o'clock. We got off at some obscure camping village (which was very nice by the way we reccommend it for those seeking holidays of water sports and excitement) where some nice woman dressed in full traditional austrian get up (but was infact english) kindly told us "no, you have comein the wrong direction, you need to get a train from salzburg" Well we were mildly horrified to nsay the least (the hills were alive with some good old fashioned "oh bother!" "deary me" on mine and kates parts as im sure you can imagine...)as we had to get a bus to the stop where we had started but just two hours later. This not only meant that the day was all messed up but we got up two hours earlier than we could have done! We decided that it was now too late to go to the slat mines, we will do that tomorrow and like triue pros we got on with the itinery unphased!
We had to getr another bus. this time it was the right one though and we headed up ion a cable car to some mountain thingy 1333(or there abouts)m above salzburg. This is lovely we thought, now what do we do. We proceeded to have lunch which im sure sounds very picturesque but it was infact very traumatic as a plague of flying ants decended upon us as well as some ratehr sizable black birds so we looked very bizzare wafting our arms around, bread and ham flying everywhere, bemused austrain children staring whilst there ice cream melted down their arms... We went back down shrapish to say the least. Oh and kate thought some autrian guy wearing full on shorts and braces was hilarious...
WE GOT THE BUS to the centre again where kate looked at the map (im sure you know where this is going) and confidently prodded where she had previously circled the museum. I, in my wearisome, ant infested, vertigoed, state followed. It was boiling today. Humid as well, very unpleasent to walk in. We walked along to where the museum should be....it didnt look this far i though, looked at the map, yes, we have indeed walked for 20 mins in the wrong direction. Much moaning, waving of map, poking map and throwing arms to heavens ensued. Very stressful indeed. We eventually found the museum which had some lovely fish in but was like 5 floors high and the stairs took the shine off the experience...
we then set off to find the toy museum! It had managed to get hotter and more humid and we could see each other melting so the trip was half gearted to say the least. We didnt find the toy museum asit lokked like it was up a big hill so we proceeded to find thebcable train thing that takes you up tpo the fortress! We had a mooch around the shops in the fortress as all of the inside rooms where up many stairs, took some loverly photographs and watched lightning stike distant hills! We then hopskied onto the cable oojimabob down into tehh town again.
We walked around and i felt that i had thoughorly deserved a present due to the days work and so i bought the 4x4 rubik's cube! After this i am taking down how to solve it off the tinternet!
Were off to the salt mines tomorrow before we are off to innsbruck so we have more than a travelling day ahead of us!
Missing you all and cheerio!
