While in Nha Trang Kate and I didn't know where to go next, problem solved when we heard you could go sand surfing in a place further south called Mui Ne. Down through vietnam we went. We were zonked when we arrived so we quickly found a guesthouse and had a nap. Around 7 pm we woke up and debated going out versus calling it a night. We decided to get up and go for some dinner and it's a good thing we did. On the way home we ran in to our friend english Michael who we had met in Nha Trang. While we were stopped talking to him our other friend German Michael who was on our motorbike adventure with us in Laos pulled up on his motorbike. We went out with everyone that night and had a blast!
The next day we woke up and after breakfast we were walking back to our place looking for somewhere to rent motorbikes. While doing so a man rode up on his scooter and asked if we wanted to rent his for the day. He told us they would be $9 each to rent. This was way to much so we bargained our way down to $5 each for two manual motorbikes. The guy didnt ask for our licenses or passports or even our names he just took our $5 and the name of our guesthouse and was gone.
When Kate and I got on our motorbikes to find the sand dunes we didn't exactly know where we were going. Needless to say we took a few wrong turns along the way. However it turned out ok because we found a hidden fishing village where the locals tried to explain to us in vietamise how they went fishing and showed us how they made their bait and loaded up their boats for a day on the south china sea. After our pit stop we headed out to find the dunes again. Luckily we found some jeeps that were going that way. We followed (see raced) them to the dunes.
When we got there I rented a magic carpet to ride down the sand dunes. The first ride down was tonns of fun. However the climb back up the sand dune wasn't. As I was climbing up the sand was falling down the hill. It took me a while and a few stops to get up but eventually I made it. By this time it was starting to get late and the sun was beginning to go down. When we left we realized we were covered from head to toe in sand! The sun screen and sweat were the perfect adhesive for the white sand. We also had to outshine sand put of our shoes before we got back on our bikes.
On our way home we got lost again(surprise) but eventually made it. We went back to the room and hit the shower hard! When we were both finished it looked like there was a sand dune in our bathroom!!! The whole day was amazing and we were so glad to be back on bikes even if it was only for one day. Riding along the coastal roads of the south china sea the views were stunning. Lots of pictures to follow!
