Yesterday marked the start of our first tournament here in china. At opening ceremonies we boiled to death in our sweet, but hot, team jackets as we heard from those who set up the event as well as from local officials. The only address in English was from our coach John.
Then in front of the hundreds there I was honored with the task of getting to present a ball signed by our team to one of the local govt officials. It definitely felt very movie star, as their camera people are not shy at all about getting up in your face.
We then hung out and watched the other teams play for a bit, went back to the hotel to eat and relax, and then returned to the gym for our match.
We played the local professional team, who was supposed to crush us, and we played them pretty well. We came out great in the first and second, just the way we wanted to, but our errors lead to them besting us in 4 games. Given the myriad of circumstances, it was a great match for out team to have played and we learned a lot from it... And had fun too:)
Now I'm off to breakfast!
