What Fun and breathtaking! As the Gymnastics mounted the bars or the rings we held our breath with each move. It's amazing how these athletes move with such grace through the air. Shawn Johnson WAS DESERVEDLY THE BEST!! As a first time Olympian, she made the USA proud.
Track and Field Night:
A bolt of lightening!!! If you blick twice you would miss the race!! Usain Bolt flew around the track so fast it made you jaw drop!! these are amazing athletes. We also saw Sonya Richards (fastest woman in the world this year) prove to the world that you can't stand on your laurels. S. Richards had to settle for the Bronze medal as the runner from Great Britain sped past her in the last 100 meters! It was also disappointing to see Lolo Jones (fastest woman for her category) in the 500m Hurdles. during the last leg of the race, she knocked over a hurdle. So not only did she not get a medal, but she finished in 6th or 7th place!! These were some real shockers!!
We also saw a world record being broken as the Russia's Elena Insinbaeva, retained the women's pole vault gold and set on Monday evening the world record of 5.05 meters.
The Taekwondo finals and medals ceremonies were really exciting also. The athletes are super quick!!! I guess that would makes them Olympians..
I have included some pictures for your pleasure.
We are off to the Olympic Village today.
Love to all,
Karen and Malcolm
