What an experience!!! We went to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and The Great Wall yesterday!
Chinese tradition is soooo rich in culture and tradition. The Forbidden City is over 2000 years old!!! Wow!! before Christ!! Malcolm and David had a good time walking along the center line of the City. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties only the Emperor could walk along the center of the City. Malcolm and David (Malcolm's uncle) were in their element (the Kings that they are!) The dragon carvings and ornate artwork and colors were beautiful!! Our guide explained to us how Feng Shui was used in creating the Forbidden City. there are huge (5-6 feet high) iron water pots surrounding the city. they also had ornate lions sculptures in entry ways to represent balance--one male and one female.
there was so much more... the Forbidden City tour lasted about two hours.
The Great Wall was breathtaking!!! A 4000 mile fortress!!! The walk up to the Great Wall is about 40 minutes!!! uhhhh.... we took the cable car and got their in 5!!! Walking along the Wall was totally breathtaking!!! we were surrounded by lush greenery as far as the eye could see. the Wall is made up of steep inclines and declines, so it was not an easy trek. just imagining what the builders and warriors went thru takes your breath away!.
Malcolm needs the computer.
Pictures to follow!
We are off to see Volleyball and Women's Basketball this evening.
Love to all!
