Karen's Travels
Hello everyone
Not a lot to add but I have several minutes more time on the clock to fill. Good to receive all your messages - and a special thankyou to all at housegroup for your prayers (got your message, Jeannette!).
Lazy day today - up at 10am, went to local supermarket to buy breakfast (so cheap!), then for a swim. Visited the Big Buddha today, a huge golden Buddha statue at the top of a flight of stairs.
A few points of interest: everyone travels around by moped, often whole families on one bike or piles of boxes and bags precariously balanced between legs or on the back! Taxis beep for business continually as you walk along the street, but we catch the truck-like vehicles to get around, which are much cheaper. Drivers always try to over-charge but we're onto that now. Bartering is the order of the day and prices drop dramatically.
Back on the mainland (not sure when yet), we are visiting a jungle area where I may get to ride an elephant, I hope! As we island hop, my next new experience will be snorkelling, which I'm really looking forward to as life underwater is interesting in these parts!
Heidi and Jane are just organising our accommodation for Boston - a dormitory I think. I much prefer it when we have our own room as you get more sleep. Building up my tan nicely.
Have to go now - thinking of all my friends and family often. It seems such a long time until August. Love to all.
