Back again! Arrived by overnight train in Bankok this morning - feeling very jaded and have the prospect of a 4.30am start to look forward to tomorrow. Two flights tomorrow - to Hong Kong, then Beijing - and so begins our China trip. So what's the latest news? We've been enjoying the beautiful beaches at Railay and have witnessed some spectacular sunsets. Hopefully will be downloading some new photos in a moment, which I have had transferred from my camera to a CD. Highlights in brief: went elephant trekking in Ao Nang. Heidi and Jane travelled on one elephant and me on another. My 'driver' , named Pon, was quite a character. He couldn't speak a word of English but made the whole experience quite amusing. Five minutes after setting off into the rainforest, the rainforest lived up to its name and the heavens opened. Our guides came prepared with umbrellas and mine left his seat on the elephant's head to sit next to me on my seat. We took a sedate journey through the forest, through a river and up and down small hills, some with boulders, which the elephants negotiated in their sure-footed way when I was getting very nervous about their ability to do so. It rained the whole time, which added to the experience. We took photos of each other in the beautiful surroundings. Afterwards, I fed bananas to my elephant (named Botang which means banana leaf). A wonderful experience which Heidi has captured on video camera. The next day we took a whole day trip in a speed boat around the Phi-Phi islands. Again, more idyllic beaches and some snorkelling, stopping at various bays along the way, as well as having lunch. I've had an upset stomach for the last couple of days, but it feels better today. A bit apprehensive about what China holds. May not get a chance to update for a while. Depends on internet access in China. Can't download pics on this machine unfortunately - may try to find another one later. Love to everyone. I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Keep praying for me!
