Karen's Travels
Hello everyone
Sorry it has been a few days, but website was down. Now in Bangkok where the traffic is dreadful and no-one stops for zebra crossings or lights. You simply have to take your life in your hands and pray when crossing roads. Bad pollution, too. Please see tuk tuk - we've had two rides in those. Again, fun but scary. Have visited The Grand Palace, Temple of the Dawn and the floating market - have some great pics and may download them when Jane shows me how!
The heat is almost unbearable - it takes some adjusting to. I am drinking gallons of water and sweating just as much! Thai food is good - sticking to noodles, rice and vegetables and avoiding meat and fish. No tummy troubles yet, I'm glad to say! Have had a couple of visits to MacDonalds, I'm ashamed to say!
Tonight we take a sleeper train south to Ko Samui where we will be island hopping. Beaches at last! A welcome change to cities. We were going north to Chiang Mai but floods and landslides have affected travel and so a change of plan. Looking forward to the experience of sleeping on a train. I hope I do sleep!
I miss everyone. Just think, if I was home now, I'd be heading off to church. What else can I remember? In the evenings, we eat in Khausan (?) Road; lots of street life to watch. Not all is at it seems - some of the Thai women are actually men! We are constantly hassled by people trying to sell you something and there are scams of all sorts. For example, everyone tells you attractions are closed so you will go somewhere they recommend! The Thai people are friendly, but you must trust none of them! Money running out. More soon, I hope, with pictures of glorious sunsets on sunny beaches. Bye!
