Hello folks at home. Here we are safely in KL. So far so good.
Left a quiet Manchester airport late on Christmas Day - thanks Dad for turning out for us .... and with Ross' parting words ringing in our ears "Don't get yourselves involved in any civil wars" - as if!
Saw a brief dawn at Dubai before darkness again as we landed at Singapore.
Our hotel was fine - a couple of miles out of the city & very extensive. As Andrew said our room was slightly nearer to the city centre than the reception!
And next door to a big hospital - the 'Fish Head restaurant' is at one end & the mortuary at the other! Not sure if there's a link?
Singapore - a fusion of cultures & architectures. All neat & well ordered. We did the obligatory trip to Raffles Hotel, crunching though the peanut shells was fun and it was nice & cool sitting under the fans & imagining colonial days.
The Christmas lights on Orchard Road were amazing. It was funny seeing 3 monks having their photo taken in front of the Ferrero Rocher christmas tree!
Headed into a posh hotel and got treated to Singpaore Slings by a lovely Malaysian family.
In China town an old guy passed Andrew a newspaper and the back page headlines were "Ooh Aah Berbatov"
No need to panic - Andrew has found the Chinese equivalent of Coronation Street, the main difference is that they follow it up with a psyco-analysis session with experts. Wonder what they would make of the Barlows?!
This morning we set off on an early train for the 7 hour journey to KL. Border control was very strict until the sniffer dogs were ditracted when a mouse ran by and the dogs decided to chase it.
The taxi driver who picked us up from Station Sentra soon got bogged down in the KL traffic jams, but fortunately deposited us at the hotel via numerous back streets. Hotel room is nice and large and clean & looks over a busy shopping street with a view of the KL Tower..
