I woke up in the middle of the night and walked over to the facilities. There were about 3 kangaroos munching the grass by the light of the amenities block. They all eyed me suspiciously and then carried on. The door to the gents was open. I half expected a kangaroo to be in there leg cocked at the urinal but it was all quiet. I had a wonderful nights sleep in the Bush. I woke up really early, about half 5, to the sound of the bush and loads of birds. I think my bladder also woke me up so I extricated myself from my sleeping bag and flip flopped over to the amenities block. I'd got up before the flies, it was bliss with not one single fly pestering me. The camp looked beautiful in the early morning light and on my way back to the camper I saw a solitary kangaroo skip past but no emus! ...

I had a wonderful peaceful night at Porongurup. This camp site is lovely and a credit to the owners. Whilst I was doing my dishes in the campers kitchen before I left I got talking to a really nice retired couple from Bendigo in Victoria. They were on the road for 7 months and had this lovely old blue camper with their names on it. I talked to them about Castle Rock which they were doing today and also my trip. Although the showers were utterly fantastic here and the swimming pool had been great, I didn’t like this site much and was glad to leave. It was too busy, the sites were too close together and the people there just seemed a bit arrogant to me. It was mainly young 30ish couples travelling together who I generally find to be not very friendly, arrogant and just plain annoying. I’m getting to realise that I prefer the quieter and more remote camp sites ...
