Happiness Is The Road
It had been a noisy night. We thought for a moment that Lindsey and Dennis had arrived on UHF 18/40. It was in fact four people sat outside a camper trailer behind us who were either plugged into a PA system or had been born with in built loud hailers! We had to put our fan on to drown out their cackling. We can't wait to get down to Perth and the South West where it is cooler and will hopefully be quieter and we can find camp spots away from other people and their annoying and inconsiderate behaviour. After brekky we had a walk along the beach and admired the deep gorgeous blue of the Indian Ocean before heading further down the coast and into Kalbarri National Park. The coast line here was very rugged and was the most dramatic coastal scenery I have seen since exploring the south west of WA. The powerful ocean waves crashing in against the rocks was a great sight to behold. We went for a walk at Red Bluff first. A path went along near the cliff edge to a lookout from where we got panoramic views of the cliffs and the pounding ocean. We stopped at the lookout to admire the view and look at the ocean. After a short while we could see something moving and flipping about in and out of the water. There were two or three flipping objects. We zoomed in with our camera to get a better look and we're pretty certain that we were looking at wild dolphins! Wow, this was amazing. Although not close up it was so much better to see dolphins here than at the commercialised hell that was Monkey Mia. We watched them having what seemed to be a flipping fun time in the water for ages. We then wandered back to the car park and drove a little further down the coast where we went on the Mushroom Rock walk trail. The walk took us down to the sea past incredible rock formations. Unfortunately on the way down we had a rather distressing accident with one of our cameras. We tried to pass the camera between us unsuccessfully and the camera fell. We watched the camera fall through the air, in what felt like slow motion, and bounce off against a rock before flying into a bush and disappearing! ****, this wasn't good. We managed to retrieve the camera but it had taken a rather nasty knock. Despite our best efforts it could not be revived. Never mind though as we were both okay and we did have another camera to take photos of the walk. Good job as the scenery was awesome. We carried on with the walk to the oceans edge where we watched the waves crash in. We saw loads of beautifully coloured crabs here, some orange and some a lovely purple. From here we did some rock scrambling back up the cliff and enjoyed a great walk with some fantastic vistas. After the walk we drove back to Highway 1 and down to the town of Geraldton. On the way we passed a sign showing us that Perth was now only 422 kilometres away. My excitement of being back there is building. It will be at fever pitch soon! We drove into Geraldton, the last big town before Perth, to do some shopping at Coles and the we drove on to Dongara where we had decided to spend the night. We stayed at a lovely caravan park which was right on the beach. The really good thing about this caravan park though was that all the sites were ensuite. We had our very own ensuite amenities hut which felt like a massive luxury to us. It was great. Before tea we went for a mooch to have a look at the beach. The beach wasn't that good though and had a lot of weed on it. Also whilst we were there some random guy was in the sea and he appeared to be skinny dipping! He saw us and put his hands over his lunch box, the filthy *******! We chilled out for the rest of the day, literally. For the first time in ages it got properly cold and we snuggled up for the night under three covers. We don't think we'll be needing our trusty fan again.
