Happiness Is The Road
It had been an eerie night. This was a weird camp site. There had been loads of noises in the night. I'm sure that the camp site was possessed. Maybe it was on top of an ancient burial ground? It certainly had been a strange night. We decided not to have breakfast here due to the weirdness and the mud and our too intimate neighbours. We drove a few kilometres down the road to the Summerland Peninsula where we had our breakfast with a lovely sea view. After eating we drove further down to the Nobbies where we went on a walk to see the blow hole and the dramatic coastal scenery. We also saw a cute fairy penguin in it's little wooden house. It is here where the Penguin Parade is every evening. It is one of Australia's major tourist draws so we decided to give it a miss. I'm sure that the sight of lots of cute little penguins waddling out of the sea to their nest boxes at dusk is a wonderful sight but not with the noise and general hell created by bus loads of Japanese and Germans etc etc etc. There would have just been too many people there to get on our nerves. I feel sorry for the penguins having to cope with this awful invasion of privacy every night when all they want to do is snuggle up in their jim jams and go to bed. We left Phillip Island to go to Wilsons Promontory National Park which is the southernmost tip of the Australian mainland. The scenery was stunning driving through the National Park to the camp area at Tidal River. It was breathtaking scenery once again. The camp area at Tidal River is huge with over 400 sites. We got what we thought was a good spot not far from the beach and started to settle when two guys rocked up on the sites behind us. We overheard them talking to a woman next to them. He said to her that they were holding a few sites for a group of about 40 footballers who were turning up later. He said that they were on a drinks ban at the moment and would therefore be very quiet. We didn't believe a word of this and decided to move! We found a better spot in another part of the camp. The problem with this camp though was that it was just too big and busy. After tea we went for a walk to the beach. On the way we saw that the footballers had arrived and it wasn't exactly quiet. We had done the right thing to move. The beach was absolutely beautiful. It was in a really scenic bay. It was just getting dark when we got there and the place felt magical. We danced around on the sand and had an awesome time, just laughing. The orbs were with us and this just heightened the magic. There was a wonderful energy in the air. On the way back to our site we just glimpsed a wombat dashing across in front of us. He had disappeared into the dark before we managed to get a photo. Never mind today had been great.
