Happiness Is The Road
We got up for a wee in the night. This is becoming a regular occurrence! On the way back from our luxury en suite Jay had a fright. Suddenly something darted up a tree and she held on to me very tight. I think it was a naughty possum. Before breakfast we did our laundry. Our laundry bag has been piling up for weeks and is now seriously overflowing. Jay has run out of knickers and I'm almost out of trolleys. We are at crisis level! We filled two machines with all the stuff we had. Whilst the machines were in action we had breakfast and once all our stuff had been hung up to dry we went to the city. We had decided to go by bus. The bus stop was just across the road. Hobart has a public transport network with a sensible ticketing system. Not an unfathomable chaos like Melbourne's Myki system, thank goodness. It was $5 each for a day ticket and it only took half an hour to get to the city centre. Hobart is not a big city, the population is only about 200,000. We had a mooch around the shops first and then went down to the waterfront. We were getting very hungry and had been recommended a takeaway chippy on the harbour. This was a floating chippy and the menu looked great. The takeaway was called Fishy Business. The tide was out so you had to stoop down to the counter. Apparently when the tide's in you have to reach up. I decided on the basket for two. This comprised one battered fish, one crumbed fish, two scallops, two calamari, two prawns , two crab sticks and chips. It looked and tasted delicious. We sat happily on a bench by the water stuffing our faces silly, or should that be stuffing our silly faces! After that we had a good look around the waterfront area. There was a huge cruise liner docked up called the Diamond Princess. It must have been chock full of Americans as there were loads of them about, all sneakers and base ball caps. When we'd had enough we got the bus, a really ace bendy bus, back to the camp site. We had a lovely tea and watched the cute bandicoots dart about.
