Happiness Is The Road
After brekky we hit the highway North to Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory right at the top end of Australia. It was just under 100 kilometres from here. Darwin is the furthest north we can go on our travels. We needed to go shopping today and so we went to a big shopping mall in Casuarina, a suburb of Darwin. We'd had the air con on all the way up and when we stopped and got out the heat hit us like opening an oven door. It was stupidly hot here, much hotter than yesterday in Batchelor. We weren't in the heat for long though as we were soon in the air conditioned comfort of the mall. We had to buy a portable hard drive as we've been taking an incredible number of photos and have run out of space to store them. There is so much to photograph here as each day brings more wonderful sights to dazzle our eyes. We also did the usual food shopping and we bought some more beer. After this we headed over to the Darwin Free Spirit Resort where we'd booked to stay. According to Trip Advisor this was the best rated one in Darwin. The camping area of the resort was huge and absolutely rammed. It wasn't really our thing but we needed somewhere to stop in Darwin for a couple of nights. Despite the resort's name there didn't appear to be any free spirits here, just a load of 'sheep'. Anyhow never mind the resort did have three swimming pools and we cooled off in one of them. There was no chance of cooling off much in the showers here though as the water pressure was abysmal, it was just a trickle! Sleep later only came about with the assistance of our cooling fan. It's red hot in the top end.
