Happiness Is The Road
We had another lovely peaceful night and having not bumped into any strange ***** in the showers this morning all was good. We had decided to go and explore more of the South Island today so after brekky we went to say goodbye to the friendly animals. Billy and the sheep were very happy to see us again. The sheep came bounding over all excited when they saw us and Billy was desperately trying to eat Jay's fleece. Molly was fast asleep grunting and snorting away. We didn't wake her. We then hit the road quite sad to leave this wonderful place behind. The roads were twisting and turning and we soon discovered that the driving on the South Island was just as bad as on the North. These people are just nasty. We did some food shopping in Nelson and Richmond both of which were fairly nondescript places and then we headed across land to Murchison where we hoped to stop for the night. Murchison was reached along another of New Zealand's 'high stress' routes! The scenery though was quite good as we got out into the hills. When we arrived in the little town of Murchison the weather was hot and sunny, a complete contrast to this morning in Linkwater which had been really cold. We found the camp site no problem and it was fairly quiet which was good and it was another farm site. The site appeared to be very well cared for and it was set amongst some beautiful well kept gardens with the surrounding hills as a lovely backdrop. The guy on reception was a bit of a character telling me about how many sheep there are in New Zealand and that they're not all sheep shaggers! They might not all shag sheep but they all most certainly want to f**k you up on the road! We found a good spot away from anyone else and then went to see the animals. There were sheep and chickens and for one amazing moment we thought we had been transported back to Australia (Australia how me miss you!) as they had a few emus and a cute little wallaby. It was weird seeing them in this country. We just chilled out for the rest of the day in the sun swatting away the hundreds of little black insects that were everywhere. We are covered in bites and have been bitten more here than anywhere in Australia. New Zealand is irritating!
