Happiness Is The Road
When we woke up luckily the snow had gone.In fact there hadn't been any snow at all! I'm just having a little laugh with you. The pictures of the snow were taken from photographs displayed at the camp site showing how snowy it got here in 2006 when snow was on the ground for about two weeks and Bombala got cut off. All we actually did yesterday was chill out, do our laundry and have a spring or actually autumn clean of the camper.
Today we headed back to the coast. After breakfast we went downhill from Bombala to Merimbula where we stocked up on food at Woolworths and got some more beers from BWS. I chose Tooheys today as it's a New South Wales brewer. From Merimbula it was a fairly short drive along the coast to the Bournda National Park. The Hobart Beach campground sounded really good and it turned out that it was. It was in a bushland setting on Wallagoot Lake and close to the beach. We chose a nice quiet spot and settled down for the rest of the day. All the plots here had fire rings and because there isn't a fire ban at the moment we were really looking forward to getting a fire going later. Luckily there was a nice supply of fire wood next to the pit so we were good and ready. The facilities were good here. There were pit toilets but they looked okay and there were hot showers. There was lots of poo on the ground around the site so we hoped for some wildlife sightings later. Before tea we went for a walk along the lake and then came back to the site and went in search of kangaroos as some of the poo we had seen earlier definitely looked like roo poo. I was correct and we spotted a big male kangaroo grazing on the grass. He wasn't that scared of us and we got a load of photos. It's always brilliant to see kangaroos and we never get tired of seeing them. There was another roo nearby as well but this one ran off. After this we went back to the camper to have our tea and make the fire. We had a lovely meal in front of the dancing flames of the fire. We stayed out for ages after dark delighting in the wonderful flame show that the fire provided for us. We were very relaxed. Suddenly Jay heard a rustling noise at her side so we got the torch and were delighted to find a really cute but cheeky looking possum walking past us. We followed him with the torch and got some great photos. We went to bed reeking of smoke but very happy.
