Glamorama: London
Today, Allison and I checked out of Hotel Brivio and went to Central Station for breakfast and to catch our train to Rome. The train ride was four and a half hours long. We were happy to find that our hostel was a short walk from the train station.
Our hostel, Freedom Traveller, was more like Stayokay in Amsterdam...a hostel filled with young people, and flyers and posters suggesting what to do in Rome. The rooms were pretty gross and small, though. We got showers and went to the free dinner of penne and sauce (same thing every night).
Then, we decided to go on the pub crawl that was advertised in our hostel. It met at the top of the Spanish steps, so we headed over there but were an hour early. We wandered around the area, which was mostly designer stores, and stumbled upon Piazza del Popollo, which had beautiful fountains and an obelisk that is being worked on.
We then went back to the Spanish steps and climbed them, looking for the pub crawl. It took a few minutes, but we followed a group of girls and eventually found them. It was raining until this point, and we were glad it stopped for our hour outside of getting to know everyone. We met some students on the crawl studying in Rome, some were studying in Vienna, and a few were from Canada in Rome on holiday.
We then went to The Highlander Pub for about 45 minutes and all talked to each other. Then we moved on to another place which had music. Finally, we ended up at a fancy disco that is usually 30 euro to get into! So we were surrounded by mid 20-30s, wealthy people. I'm sure they were glad to have us in there...Allison and I caught a taxi back to the hostel and went to bed to ret up for a day of sightseeing.
