Glamorama: London
We woke up early at went to breakfast at a cute corner cafe called Sabrina's...unfortunately all you can get for breakfast are pastries, croissants, and coffee.
Then, we went to the Duomo, the main church in Florence. We walked around inside and marvelled at the ceiling frescoes by Viscali. Then, we went out and around to get in line to climb to the top. We had skipped St. Peter's, so we were determined to climb this one. It was 463 steps up...not bad, but the spiral staircases made me really dizzy, and towards the top it is very steep and I felt claustrophobic with people trying to come down and we were trying to get up.
Unfortunately, it was raining, but it was still beautiful at the top. We took many pictures looking out over Florence.
Then, we headed to Santa Croche, the student area, and went to the Opera di Santa Croche. This church has the graves of many greats, including Michaelangelo, Dante, Machiavelli, and Gallileo. Also, the Leather School of Florence is inside. We saw them handmaking the leather handbags, which were so colorful and creative. I want to take classes here...I loved all of the bags.
We went to lunch at a stylish place called Moyo were I got a zucchini frittata. It was excellent, and so good to have protein!!! This was probably my favorite place we ate at in Italy...
We tried to find Vivoli, which claims to have the best gelati in the world, but it was closed since it was a Monday. Then, we found an open one nearby which actually had wonderful gelati. We also went to a Mexican restaurant that was closed, but I had a back-up...Eby's Latin Bar, which was open and cheap for students.
We had yummy burritos and drinks and then moved on to a pub called the William. There was really no one here, so we kept walking and found a nice wine bar. I got a Danzante 2002 wine from Sicily...my ancestors make really good wine!
Then, we finally met up with Allison's friend Jeremy and some of his friends. It was nice to have a group of people to hang out with, but we went to bed pretty early because they had class the next day.
