The train arrived on time amazingly to Surat Thani and from here I had to catch a bus to the Doc. I had heard its much cheaper to catch local bus then to pay bus ferry combo. I found the local bus and caught it into town - unfortunately the locals were used to this forward thinking by independent backpackers and did their best to try rip me off. It made me quiet angry as it is a sign of disrespect double the price because of the colour of my skin. I walked around for 2 hours trying to find a fair price for a bus to the Doc but after several failed attempts, numerous Thai people laughing at me and the fact that no matter what I did I was going to pay triple what a Thai person would pay I gave in and got a bus ferry combo to Ko Samui. The ferry was old and rough but got us there no worries - at this point I am incredibly tired as I had zero sleep the night before. Arriving at Ko Samui I tried to find a bus to the other side of the island but once again the price had been jacked right up. I walked past a motorcycle hire place and was told I could hire bike for about $4.50 a day (the same as what a taxi would have cost me to otherwise of island). They had a bigger bike then the normal sized scooters and I managed to hire it for 2 days at same price. Filled with fuel and off I went - wow how good it is to be back on a motorcycle, the freedom the wind in your face. I went and met my Couchsurfing hosts Tatiana and Paul and two other Couchsurfers that were also staying with them. We decided to head to the waterfalls and do some climbing and sightseeing. Although I was exhausted I still managed to gather enough energy to climb up the mountain and visit 4 or 5 amazing waterfalls. This is more like the Thailand I had imagined :) We took a big offload hilux up into the mountains which was really good fun and then made for the beach at sunset. Stopping at a nice little resteraunt for Watermelon shakes. The night finished with dinner at a street food vendor on Lamai beach. Certainly an action packed day and I will sleep well tonight.
