Today is my last day on Ko Samui as this afternoon I will be off to Ko Phangan to meet my friend Maya.
In the morning Paul and I went collecting coconuts for breakfast. After the mission it is to get them the real fun starts trying to get into the Sam things. I learned the young coconuts taste the best and the older they get the worse and tougher they get. The coconut water was amazing and the coconut meat even better. I could certainly get used to fresh coconuts every morning that is for sure.
Before leaving Ko Samui we went and visited a place called grandfather and grandmother rocks - basically two rocks in the shape of a penis and vagina - very touristy but made for some nice photos. Next we went looking for a beach cafe that was rumored to have snakes, monkeys and other animals- it took us most of the day to find but when we arrived we were greeted by some very interesting animals.
At 4:30pm I took my bike back and like expected the woman tried to con more money out of me saying I had brought bike back late - I sat and argued for 10 minutes but finally talked my way out of it. Next to find the ferry port! After 3 different Jettys and a lot of different answers I found where I needed to be. My four Couchsurfing friends soon arrived and we waited for the ferry. The boat was about an hour and a half late but at least it came. The boat ride was in the dark but still quiet scenic viewing various lighting arrangements on each of the islands. We arrived to Ko Phangan, I said goodbye to my Couchsurfing friends and caught a taxi south to Haad Rin where my friend Maya was waiting. It was great to see Maya again and she hadn't changed so much from the last time I saw her back in 2008. We ate a very expensive dinner for Maya's friends birthday and then proceeded to bargain for a boat ride over to Haad Tien - like dinner this was also ridiculously expensive and 3 x the price we were told! After waiting a few hours they took us over and wow what a boat ride in an old rickety boat that looked like it was going to fall apart. Around the cape and there it was Haad Tien where I am supposed to be spending the next 2 weeks. First impressions are good very isolated and all bungalows bars and huts built along the rock edges of the shoreline.
We get to Eden where we are staying and here is where my worries start. First it is incredibly expensive, second they force us to open a tab and immediately start trying to sell sell sell us crap. Already today I have been lied to several times, tricked out of my money 3 times and given an overwhelming feeling of uneasiness.
We meet some of Maya's friends and my worst fears are realized they are all very clicky and all very much into the Party scene and I am obviously an outcast. At about 2am I go to bed as we are supposed to be getting up at 5am to go to the End of World Party at Guys Bar.
