First thing I did this morning was head into Tanah Rata for a bit of a look around the small town. First thing I notice is it is very small and quiet expensive but the people are very nice.
I had borrowed Surayyas mountain bike today so I made my way out to one of the many Tea Plantations in the area. Unfortunately the tea plantation I visited was just a tea house and no factory where I could view tea processing procedure. Also the trek out was 5km downhill which meant a very steep climb coming back to town.
I got a few bits and pieces in town and then headed back to the house.
When Surayya arrived home she invited me out to dinner with two of her friends and wow what a feast followed.
This was to be my first true Malay meal: to start we had grilled cockles with sweet chilli sauce. Next came the mains which included a huge whole fish with sweet & sour sauce and veg, green veg and fermented fish, satay stirfry veg with chicken, omelette, beef & ginger veg, Tom Yang chicken soup, fish crackers and rice. Once again I ate myself sick I really couldn't help myself with such good food in front of me I couldn't let any go to waste. My belly ached so much after that I swore to stop this dinner over-eating. Its quite apparent that Malaysia is all about the food and all people do here is eat eat and eat some more. A great way of life but no good for the waistline.
