Today I was up early to make it to the Thai Embassy by 9am. Unfortunately I had some troubles buying a ticket and the information booth worker didn't want to help me- it's quite funny you talk English here and people just go 'no no no no no' and turn away as if there scared to even attempt to understand you! I ended up paying three times the price for a train ticket and after yesterday's audial with the telephone box taking all my money - I am starting to sense a real touristy designed infrastructure - that preys on our vulnerability :( It's sad but I see it all to often with these big tourist destinations: my advice - get in and see it now before these cities are destroyed by greed and consumerist society,
I made it to the Thai Embassy but had a lot of trouble getting in after 10 minutes repeatedly ringing doorbell they let me in - luckily the whole process took 10 mins I paid the fee and got told to come back in 3 days.
Luckily it was still early and I could easily make the Sandemans free walking tour that starts main square everyday at 10:45am.
The tour was incredibly good - I may have to say the best most informative tour I have ever been on. The guide really worked hard to give a complete history of Prague and the countries it once belonged too aswell as outlining the history behind Bohemia ( actually named after the Celtric tribe that founded Prague).
Wondering around Prague it's easy to understand why it has become such a huge tourist draw: firstly the bohemian style is very unique (city of 100 Spires - literally meaning everywhere you look is grandiose buildings and architecture), secondly the city is very much intact not suffering the carnage from all the wars that neighbouring countries and thirdly it's very tourist friendly with is large soviet style streets, 100s of different styles of buildings, the biggest castle you will ever see, a mass of things to see and do and apart from all the tourist traps very cheap. To give you an idea a Pint can be brought for as little as €1.
By the end of the tour I was frozen solid and had to rush back to Zuzanas - that horrible cold that gets right to your bones. I am exhausted after a big sightseeing day but excited about what I might see tommorrow.
When Zuzana finished work we went down to one of her local watering holes for a few beers and she showed me how the Czech Republic uphold their title as the biggest beer consumers in the world. 1.5litres of beer per person per day!
