"Pura Vida" Today is the day for the most popular thing to do here in Puerto Viejo; hiring bicycles and cycling the coast road. I was up early as usual and unfortunately the weather wasn't looking great. At around we decided we would go for it even though the weather didn't look like improving; there was supposed to be 3 of us going but at the last minute Sonia from France pulled out because of the weather. We picked up our Retro style Carribean bikes for $5 (per day) and took off through town; on the way I got my ticket for tommorows morning bus to the capital. Just as we left town it started to rain and there was also some wind picking up - we tried to remain positive and kept riding and hoping for the best. The rain kept up for about 3 hours and we had to constantly search for cover when it started to rain heavily. The ride along the coastal was beautiful none-the-less and from the first moments we spotted howler monkeys, toucans and other colorful Rainforrest animals. The road was flat and so riding wasn't too difficult and having the opportunity to spot unique animals made it all worthwhile. We reached the end of the road; Manzanilla after 2.5 hours and finally the rain was subsiding but the beach was not so pleasant as there was a heavy onshore wind and grey sky's. We sat and ate our lunch whilst reassuring one another that it was a good idea to rent bicycles today and that it beats sitting in the hostel all day. The ride back was very leisurely and amazingly the sun started to peak it's head through; we wouldn't of been riding 10 minutes when Neil's spotted Sloths in the trees overhanging the road. To see a sloth is a real treat and we got to observe its incredibly slow movements and graciousness in the trees. Now the rain had stopped all the tourists were out on their bicycles spotting animals which made for a nice comradery. By the time we got back to the hostel I was absolutely spent and had to drink a strong coffee to keep myself from falling asleep. Today was a really great day considering the bad weather and I feel I have spent enough time here in Puerto Viejo and am ready for my next adventure. In the evening I sat around with a few friends I had made in the hostel and got some travel ideas whilst eating coconuts and listening to some very chill music.
