First Day in Puerto Viajo! I was up early today waiting to see how the weather was going to turn out after a bout of rain lastnight. Unfortunately it wasn't looking so good so along with my new friends Niels, the guy from Portugal and our friend from Holland we sat around drinking coffee and talking about our experiences in Central America so far. The weather did start to clear so Holland and Portugal went and hired bikes whilst myself and Niels decided to hold-off and hopefully wait for some nice weather later in the week. I headed into the town to try and change some money and see if I could find some sunscreen. As I was walking around the sun did start to peak it's head out so I decided to walk out South along the coast to the first beach Cociles 2km down the road. The walk was quite pleasant and everywhere you look is lush green Forrest and absolutely teaming with wildlife; mix that with a Carribean flavour and there you have Costa Rica. The beach was nice enough and very similar to what you might find in South-east Asia but didn't really wow me in anyway. I guess everything is relative and we often don't appreciate those things that we have the luxury of experiencing on a regular basis - for me that is beautiful beaches. I spent the afternoon on the beach - sun baking, swimming and trying to relax. On the way back to town I took this very interesting coastal path that was covered in thick Costa Rican Rainforrest. I met Niels in town and walked around with him for a while before making our way back to the hostel. It's strange being in the hostel circuit again and observing other travellers and their interesting behaviors. The hostel holds 30 guests and literally all the guests cook as its so expensive to buy food at cafes or resteraunts here ($10 up). Unfortunately the amount of people plus the lack of hostel ettiquette seen me waiting until around 9:30pm before I could grab a burner and try heat some sausage and vegetables I had brought earlier. To tell the truth I am over cooking for now and can't wait to get to cheap Nicaragua where you can eat at resteraunts for a few dollars. It makes a huge difference when you travel being in places where food prices are reasonable and where we can afford to eat-out a few times a day.
