Today was to be my only day in Cali so I wanted to do and see as much as possible. In the morning Carolina, her sister and I went to the markets and I brought a few fruit and vegetables. I was hoping to have a bit of a look around but neither of the girls really wanted to so we went back to the house. After lunch we were to go to town but once again it was very hard to get the girls motivated, I said I would go by myself and that would be no problem but Carolina wouldn't have it. At 2:30pm we caught the bus into the city - on the way in Carolina told me how dangerous the city was and how she was mugged 3 weeks ago, I had heard Cali was one of the most dangerous cities. To be honest walking around you do feel quite uneasy and I definitely stand out here being the only gringo. On 3 separate occasions when walking around city the local people were incredibly rude - beyond anything I have seen in Colombia so far. People are very unfriendly here and the city is quite a miserable place and so I am actually thankful I am only here for one day. At 5pm we were to meet 11 other Couchsurfers for a meeting in the park, this was a nice meet-up but unfortunately all in Spanish. About halfway through one of the girls come and say next to me and helped translate for me - must have felt sorry for me haha. There were people from all over: an Argentinian, Peruvian, Ecuadorian, Colombians, Mexican and an Australian. After the meeting we all put some money in and brought some wine and had drinks in the park, this was a really nice experience and a guy playing guitar came over and started playing for us which was an added bonus. Certainly the highlight of my Cali trip will be this meet-up, unfortunately it will be clouded by the memory of rude and deceitful people. We headed back to the house, cooked dinner and then called it a night as I have a big bus trip ahead of me tomorrow.
