Today I was up early ready for our hike to Cerro Torre - unfortunately as the weather had predicted the weather was overcast and the wind was bending the trees over. Hernan stumbled out of bed later and wanted to go anyway but I decided I would wait until later as the whole purpose of the hike is to enjoy the trek and see the tower - neither of which will happen in these conditions. I think he was a little pissed off at me for not wanting to go in the bad conditions but such is life my ego is so minuscule now that I don't need to prove myself to anyone. So instead I went for a hike around the town and tried to get a glimpse at what weather might be coming later in the day. After some lunch the weather was even worse but I was board so I packed my backpack and headed off to hike. On the way out of town I stopped in at Matildes work and got her advice on what to do; we agreed that tomorrow's weather should be nicer and that today I should hike just a couple of hours to the lookout on the outskirts of town. A good choice as the weather cracked up again and started to rain on the walk out to the lookout however I continued on after getting undercover for a few minutes in the visitors centre. The hike up to the lookout only took about 50 minutes and the view of the plains and aqua green lake were incredible, the good thing was all the rain and wind was on the other side of the mountain so I had somewhat reasonable conditions. It was nice to sit up on the lookout and think and I realized although its been nice here I am ready to go - one because I don't feel overly welcome and I don't think most of the housemates like talking to me in English which although that is my fault for not speaking good enough Spanish it is also common courtesy. Luckily I have a new host in Calafate and in two days time will hitchhike back to Calafate and stay with her for 3 nights before my flight to Buenos Aires. In the evening I made some dinner and chatted with a few of Matilde's house mates and tried to stay inside as the wind outside was crazy and the house felt as if it would blown away. People come and went all night and as most of them only spoke Spanish it was once again a little uncomfortable but they were polite enough. During the night we experienced some of the strongest winds I have ever felt and i was so thankful we didn't decide to go camping up in the park.
