Hey Everyone
Firstly would like to say thanks to everyone who is keeping me entertained on the message board, for your kindness I will be rewarding you with two seperate journals, today, as the second one will be quite long due to the fact it was quite possibly the best night of my life!!!!
Well where to start, its been a long time and there have been lots of little stories which I cant remember. So what I shall do, I will give you a small list of the things I have achieved in the last week or so, and the people I have met! Get ready to be taken through a journey of randomness! We will start with interesting people I have met!
DUNCAN - Well what can you say about Duncan a 38 year old we have been hanging with for the last 2 weeks. Looks younger than most 25 year olds and an extremely good guy we have all become quite fond of. From Guilford Surrey, he has an extremely good trivia brain, and has become a good drinking partner. The places he knows, and the bars he has taken us too have been some of the highlights of our nights out. Staying in the same room as us, when he left for 2 days over the Grand Prix weekend, it was astonishing how much we missed him. He will be leaving Melbourne the same time as us. Still have lots more to do with him, such as AFL game, more drinking, and bowling, then more drinkin!
Sharpy Boy - From Hamilton New Zealand this is a guy that latched onto my generosity, kindness and politness. He was a bit of a weirdo with an unimaginable love for music, locking me in his room during the wine and nibbles night at the hostel, to listen to him play his ESP (A guitar) I was left by my fellow travellers taking grenades in the trench, as not one of them came to rescue me. Following me out on a night out with the boys (who had practically ran away from me) he decided to stop at every busker on the street and ask the same questions to each of them, before breaking out into random drum beats! The questions were "Do you like Deftones?" (a band) "Do you like Pantera?" (another band) "Do you like tool?" (ANOTHER BAND) With his constant reference to beer as "40's", his constant random drum beats on his leg down the street and his description of his love for "old hoes" I was getting extremely tired. After the night I tried to ignore him as much as possible before he was eventually thrown out of the hostel! Thank god as there is only so many times I can be referred to as "b****" or "Mother F**k*r" (which coincidently became his nickname)
Manny - What can you say about this guy from Leeds, with a nervous laugh, which he tried to hide by hunching over, he is a shy but entertaining guy, who spent his first few nights in a dive up the road called the hub. Involved in our flour fight at 3am in the morning which got us a strict telling off in the hostel by the staff who made us clean it up (video to be published soon) we have enjoyed his company almost as much as Duncans! He will also be leaving at the same time as us!
Most other people aren't worth mentioning as the stories about them aren't as funny, so for the next segment I will try and detail a few more things we have done since we have been here and throw a few more interesting facts your way which were a shock to us all! (By the way, I have just got news that Pound Sterling now have a new £20 note, is this true??)
Melbourne Zoo - See attached in the photo albums our pictures from the Zoo. We had a rather good day, with blistering heat making most of the animals very lazy, with most of the action being filmed on my camcorder I am afraid we didnt take many pictures. The ones I have are of animals that were atleast marginally entertaining. The tigers, the lions, and the ONE Koala (which you couldnt see), were very disappointing. I have excellent footage of a family of Oorangatangs, which is the animal I have decided I would like to be if I could be an animal.... Or even better, half Oorangatang, half Man, an 'Oorangaman'. Disgusted to find out they didnt do face painting at a Zoo we made a small purchase of animal masks at the Zoo gift shop, please see pictures attached to the photo album. Again the best footage of the masks were done on Camcorder when we sat next to strangers on Trams and put them on! The reactions were excellent. Walking down the busiest streets in the centre in these masks were met with no interest whatsoever, as if it was normal thing!
Drinking - We have done plenty of this since we have been here, and been to some very good bars, including one which has been done out to the exact room of the pub in Stanley Kubricks 'Clockwork Orange' which you were not allowed to take pictures of! We have also been to a Rock bar which tried to send two of our tribe of people from the hostel away, for "looking to smart"... Never heard anything like that in my life, so we all had to try and swap jumpers and t shirts in order for them to get in, ridiculous!
Tonight we plan to go bowling, like we have decided to make a regular Sunday evening activity as it is about £2 for a pint and a free game of Bowling, great value for money! We shall be taking half the hostel, as we have become an extremely popular pack of lads, known as "The Bristol Boys" and a lot of people want to spend time with us! Not bragging of course! Also in the week we plan to go on a road trip to the Great Ocean Road as we have just purchased our van which we will be travelling up the East Coast in as from next week! The only other thing we plan to do, is go see one more live concert after catching a bug for really enjoying live music, and also go watch an Aussie Rule Football game, in the MCG which is supposed to be the first game in 7 months, so should be a good crowd. Other than that we will be doing the Neighbours tour, and maybe even the Neighbors Evening Quiz, with the cast of the show!
FACTS
- In Australia, the chocolate bar Galaxy is called 'Dove'
- The dont really drink pints here, they drink 'pots' which is just under half a pint!
- Ramsay Street is a real street that is under a different name, and you can visit it any time day or night, as its not closed off and just a normal street!

Well there you go, theres your Journal entry, keep the messages coming everyone, and I hope you like the pictures. I will be writing another one in the next two days in regards to the Lady Sovereign Concert I went to on the 22nd of March. It will be solely dedicated to that night, as it was the best night of my life, and a very good story. It will also come with plenty of pictures, and maybe a couple of video clips. I have managed to hook my laptop upto free internet access in certain parts of the city, which is good! Hope to hear from you all soon, and my email address is [email protected] if you wish to get in touch via that way.
