The alarm went off at 5.30am so Becky could get a shower. I decided to get up and have a quick shower to feel refreshed. I had breakfast, honey nut loops and a bagel with cream cheese (Philly to us Brits). G had this cool toaster thing for the camping stove. We packed up the camp and tents, loaded the trailer and were on the road by 7.22am. There was a lot of driving but once through the Tioga pass, we quickly came to the half dome viewpoint. I climbed out onto the rock edge and sat by a solitary tree taking in this awersome view. Becky came to join me and we got some good photos. G was shouting on us to get going. When we climbed in off the rock, we couldn't see the rest of the group. As we headed to where the van had been parked, I heard G shouting 'JULIE'. He'd moved the van and trailer closer to the end of the viewpoint for the rock we climbed out on...good old G! When I got to the van I told him that we were going that way because we were gonna jump on the the other tour because his was s***! Heehee! Don't think he got the joke!
Next stop, lunch on the shores of lake tenyaka. It was stunning and hot hot hot too!! G then took us to bridalveil. A stunning waterfall which, due to the wind direction, blows the fall to look like a veil. Then we got to the car park for Nevada falls. It was about a 15 minute walk in, we saw deer right on the path, the animals are so used to humans,?they're not scared. The hike started, it was all up a moderately steep incline. I walked the first section with G, the sun was blazing in the 30's but the scenery was like nothing you've seen before. Huge rock faces towering above you for miles. Beautiful waterfalls and crystal clear pools. I tried to take pictures but they just couldn't reflect the enormity of the place. I walked the second section with Becky. We reached a bridge which gave us our first view of Nevada falls high on up ahead. We waited for the rest of the group. Topped up on huge amounts of water and suncream. The heat was stifling. Elisa was really struggling and falling behind, so I hung back with her for the third section; I know how it feels! Half way to the falls, steps started. G came back and the three of us climbed together, we met Clair too, she wasn't keen to go to the top of the falls due to the height. There was a group of rocks ahead, just above the rock pools for the falls. We made it there and Elisa couldn't go any further. It was getting late in the day and the others were already at the top of the falls. Clair, who had been a bit further on before she turned back had said that there was still a fair hike. I didn't think I'd make it in the time so settled where we were. I climbed out onto a big flat rock under the falls, on my own, away from people and lay down with my eyes shut, starfished, in the sunshine. It was heaven! Of course, trendsetter that I am, then everyone came to do it. I took a couple of pictures of G as he'd forgotten his camera. Then had a snack. There was a bit of banter with a few Spaniards with their tops off taking pictures of themselves on the rock. The four of us then headed back down. G ran on ahead as we were late for the meet up time. Elisa, Clair and I walked down together. We chatted about accents and different marriage traditions. Srdgn caught up with us just at the bottom. We met G and waited for Elaina and Becky while G went to order the pizza's for tea. They arrived after about 20 minutes and we headed back to the car park at Yosemite village. G had our pizzas waiting, supreme, pepperoni and ham n onion. It was after 7pm before we left and we had a 45 minute drive ahead of us. G was stressing about setting up camp in the dark. But we were there and set up camp before night fall. Srdgn, Elisa and Clair had showers. G announced that he thought the place next door had a jacuzzi and we were allowed to use it. Becky, Elaina, G and I, packed the beers and headed to the jacuzzi! When we got to the place, we could see the pool, but no jacuzzi. Becky and I went to get changed and when we came back, G was still away trying to see if there was a jacuzzi, so I just jumped in the pool. When he came back he said to Becky 'the jacuzzi isn't here, it's in another place. Where's Julie?'. 'In the pool'. Becky said G shook his head as if to say '...only her'. They were all rolling about laughing that I'd just jumped in this random place's pool. Then I had to walk to the next place soaking wet! It was so relaxing and just what was needed after a hard, dirty days trekking. Who would've thought it...jacuzzi's on a camping trip.
We were kicked out of there about 10pm. Headed for the showers, there were only 2 unisex for the whole camp and there was a queue. Becky had forgotten her fav t-shirt and had to go back and get it. So I jumped the line and got the next free shower, Elaina and a big fat American guy were behind me in line. I got all set up, naked and turned on the hot tap, it was roasting, but then I couldn't get the cold tap on...what to do? I was filthy, but not drunk enough to give myself second degree burns...what to do? Ping! The American guy! Well!!! Elaina's face when I came outside in just my towel asking the American guy to come into my shower, I'm assuming that the whole scenario didn't translate well into Spanish, because Elaina was in creases! 'yawr saw fanee' haha!
After the showers were done, we all huddled round the campfire chatting. The main topics were 'you have unlimited cash, you are building a house, the architect is in front of you, what are the top things on your list?' and 'describe your perfect partner'. So we get to Srdgn, he's gonna have a games room, I'm thinking snooker table, bar, pinball machines, video games area...'so tell us what's in this games room Srdgn?'. 'A lightbox' ooh! I thinks 'a light box, what does that do?' as I imagine, from a guy who works in IT, this must be like those tables I've seen in fancy corporate boardrooms that lights up like a computer and you can push stuff around over the screen. 'No' he says 'you know you use pens to write on them? A whiteboard'. Well! Laugh? 'So tell us what else is in this room?'. 'Some shelves for board games' I near wet myself. It truly was the funniest conversation of the day! All respect to him, he's massively into board games. But you know...a boy says 'games room' a girl thinks drinking, snooker and video games room!
We sat up until way too late chatting and laughing. And with having to get up at 5am we had only left 4 hours sleeping time. Off to zzzzzland we went! Bear boxes stacked to the roof!!!
Today's learnings...look for the people who are taking photos of themselves, offer to take a photo of them, then ask the favour in return.
Musings...I keep getting flashbacks of the goings on from the hostel night! Aaaarrrgghhhh!! Why do I have 'Bud Spencer' typed as a note in my phone?!?!
