Early in the go again! Out of camp just after 7. Getting up wasn't easy with the late night.
We drove to a viewpoint nearby, we only stayed a couple of minutes, the sun had just risen over the high valley walls. I took a coupe of bad photos and read a really inspiring quote in a sign:
'The grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapour ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and gloaming, on seas and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls. - John Muir
We jumped back in the van and continued on to glacier point. The view of the Yosemite valley was stunning in the morning light. Everyone seemed in a quiet reflective mood. Each taking time in their own to stop and look. I took some pictures of G in top on a big rock and he reciprocated! We got some group photos and headed back to the van. We stopped to use the park toilet which was a compostable toilet, you could see right into the pit and it was stinking. Eeeuuuuccchhh!!! First one I've seen.
On the road again and heading for another hike. We hiked to sequoia trees. Wow! They are massive. Srdgn took photos of us with his fancy camera which takes a photo when the camera was moving. So we were able to get a photo of ourselves and the entire height of the tree. We hiked on and there was a dead tree on its side. They are so big we crawled (well I crouched) through the length of it! Becky and I then walked back up to the car park together, Elaina walked with us for a while!
When I got back to the van, G was setting up the picnic in the woods. The others soon arrived. Becky had gone to the toilet. Elisa wasn't too well when she got back. I had an apple and a bit if G's mum's zucchini bread he brought with him. We found giant cones and took pictures. We loaded the van and took some last farewell group photos.
We set off for the long drive back to SF. Clair sat shotgun, as she'd forgotten to take her travel pills. I had a snooze sitting next to Eliza in the second row. Becky her spot on the third row. Elaina in the back seat snoozing. And Srdgn on the front row next to the door for his claustrophobia. When I woke up, Clair was grilling G about his relationships and his philosophy on hooking up with people in the tour group.
I moved to the front seat with Srdan to charge my phone, update my blog and listen in. There was good banter and although sleeping with passengers is forbidden there were some stories and I learned that sleeping with OPP's (other people's passengers) is allowed! G confessed that if he's gonna hook up, he'll do it on the last night or make arrangements to hook up after the tour 'meet me in Vegas baby!' We stopped at a gas station, I sat on the sidewalk in the scorching desert sunshine, while the others went into the store. G came over and asked if I was really going to book into the Sheraton as I'd said earlier (I just felt so dirty from the camping, I felt that a bit of luxury was in order). I said I was gonna wait and see what my hostel room was like. G then showed us where he grew up in Pleasanton. He was into wrestling, American football and dirt bikes.
A book of messages was handed round. We all wrote our memories in them. Some of the things I wrote were 'riddles and raccoons, s'mores, nearly falling in the fire, getting lost on the jet ski, perfect houses and women, giggles and smiles, views that touched my soul' and I wrote a quote from John Muir that I'd picked up at a viewpoint.
When we got back to SF it was really sunny, unlike the weather before which was mostly cloudy and cold. We said our goodbyes and exchanged fbk info. I arranged with Becky to meet up for a drink later.
I checked in and got my charger back yay! Went to my room, 208, not 106 this time. Nobody was in but from the tickets on the boards, there was Dave, Ellie and Clair. I unpacked my bag and set aside my washing. My entire bottle of shampoo had burst all over the inside of my toiletries bag and leaked out. Fortunately, i pack it in a side pocket, so it had only made a mess of that pocket. It took me half an hour to clean it all up. I had to hang my washed toiletries bag out of the window to dry.
Dave appeared, he was a banker from Vermont who was also heading to LA but was meeting friends in the Big Sur to road trip.
I headed down to the laundry and put a couple of loads on. A bit of Internet surfing was then had, Facebook updates and tried to change my LA hostel booking to the correct hostel, same as Helen. It came up with an error message but I ran out of Internet time, laundry time and getting ready time. If it worked, I'd get an email confirmation. I went for a shower after swapping my laundry to the dryer. After I was ready, I ironed and packed the clean laundry and headed out.
I got a taxi to the Mojo bicycle club on 639 Divisidero Street and met up with Becky and her SF friend she was staying with (I really wish I could remember her name). She met Becky and art school in Uni and was a photographer working for a property agency. We sat outside, had some red wine and chatted about the funny stories from the trip. We moved inside at 10pm because your not allowed to drink outside after this time due to licensing laws. The bar closed at 11pm and I headed in a taxi, making goodbyes and plans to go to visit Becky in London!
I got the taxi driver to drop me at a good restaurant near my hostel. It was Thai and I had a mango juice, curry puff parcels and pad Thai. I walked back to the hostel after midnight and crashed. The other 3 were asleep in bed.
