Bangkok Part 3 (Yes, I'm back!)
Hi all,
I'm back!! Yippee I love Thailand and again it was easier this time round. Just hopped off the plane and onto a bus that would take me straight to good old Koh San Road for 150 bhat - cheap as chips!
I headed down the road and decided to stay in a nicer than usual place as it was only going to cost me 4 quid and it had a pool, a double bed (no more bunk beds!) and my own bathroom. It was a really nice place and the pool wa son the roof so I got some fantastic views over the city. I nipped down onto the street and got some yummy Pad Thai from a street vendor. I also got a bottle of fresh orange juice and some fresh pineapple and mango chopped up. I think in total it was about 80p! God i love it here. The old familiar smells ad nioses where around, the same people were standing by the same stalls, the Thai's were still mistaking me for being Swedish - nothing has changed and that's a good thing. I decided I would spend the day relaxing around the pool as I was exhausted from all the travelling around of the last 4 weeks.
For dinner I went to a lovely little restaurant that is popular with travellers and I can see why, great food, really cheap. I had the Tom Yum Kung soup (think that's how you spell it) which is a soup with lots of veg in it and I had King Prawns in mine with some sticky rice. This soup is basically Thai food at it's best - tastes like nothing else you have ever tasted before - gorgeous. I then headed straight to the beauty stall that they have set up at the top of Koh San Road. It is always packed so I reckon they must be good. I had a facial and a pedicure followed by a massage - all for about 8 quid!
I then hit Koh San Road markets and did a spot of shopping - can't help it! Bought some nice things and sent them home as I couldn't fit them in my backpack. I actually weighed my backpack whilst I was at the Post Office and it has gone from a modest 10KG when I started to 14kg now. Thw worrying part is that I left a few things at Cathryn's house in Sydney and I have to pick them up before I go to New Zealand! Won't need thse body pump classes anymore methinks.
That evening I nipped up to Gulliver's to watch the footie for a while but think I must have been overcome with jet lag as I was falling asleep into my Singa so I took myself back to the guest house for an early night. Probably the best decision I've made for a while as that night a western woman was shot in the head on Koh San Road, right next to my guest house. I didn't hear a thing but everyone was talking abut it the next day. Well, everyone but the Thai's, this is not good for them as it may put off western tourists who spend all the money. I couldn't find anything else out about it but was just glad I wasn't out and about.
Lots of love Jules x x x
