We queued by the desk waiting for the 'young child' (as Amanda referred to the guy from the hire car company) to finish dealing with a large family visiting England, hiring a car and sat nav. After what seemed like an eternity we were at the front of the queue, to negotiate with the guy to get my car and get home.BMW had arranged for the car, the cheapest they could find, and no matter how long I tried, it was obvious I was not going to get a free upgrade, I just wish the guy had realised that I was not going to pay any extra for this, and I certainly wasn't going to pay for all the BS insurances he wanted to sell to me.
Time to get in the car and go, or so I thought, the guy disappeared to, and I quote, 'quickly deal with an issue from the previous clients'.Just before my last nerve had exploded, we were shown the mighty chariot; a brand new Vauxhall Nova 1.2 automatic. This could have been a Ferrari, Rolls Royce or anything, but it was about to get some serious abuse on the journey home, something had to before I exploded.
Now, I drive a fair few miles daily, and I have a mid to large size car, which is at home on the motorways of England and can cope with the demands I place upon it, this Nova, was no way in the same class.I am used to travelling in the outside lane, or as some call it (incorrectly) the 'fast lane'.Don't get me started on why that is wrong!Anyway the car, an underpowered beast by design, but when an automatic gear box is attached any sort of get-up-and-go has most definitely got-up-and-gone.Undeterred, I got stuck into the M25 traffic. The M25 for those who don't know is a motorway that circles London like a ring-road.Certain times of day this turns from a motorway into a car park.I was certainly in no mood to sit in traffic, do with my foot planted firmly on the floor; I took on anything and everything to get through the traffic.
I rounded the corner on 2 wheels, finally we returned home and Amanda let out a relieved sigh that we had reached home alive, and ran into the safety of the house.
