My Medical Adventure
We have been in Port of Spain since Friday night, and it has already been quite an experience. Murray a lovely Trinidadian taxi driver picked us up from the airport and sorted us ut with accommodation in a local guest house. The six of us (Matt, Annie, Togi, Rynn and I) squeezed into a cadalac and our luggage got literally strapped into the boot, threatening to fall out over each bump!! The Guest house was interesting very dated and with a suspicious damp smell but the staff were very friendly. We have spent the rest of the week end exploring port of Spain. We have found ourselves a new guest house nearer the hospital, with a swimming pool, yes I know we are meant to be slumming it, but there are 6 of us sharing a room! cozy !!!. We have experienced the Maxi taxi, Customised mini buses, which you hail over, and you get in with all the locals going in your direction. Quite an experiece yesterday we had to get out of one quickly as the driver was drunk, they think nothing of drinking and driving here!!! All the locals are really friendly but not threatening, maybe because we have boys with us!!! there is a really relaxed atmosphere and it is not touristy at all. Down town port of spain has shopping malls, food stalls, markets and men with beat boxes who push their carts up and down the streets playing carribean music, Very cool. We also went to the Trinidad and Tobago food festival yesterday, yum had crab and dumplings and sampled the rum!! very tasty and soo cheap here, lovin it!!!!
