My Medical Adventure
This is my last entry from Tonga as we are off to Sydney on Saturday, but before I go I will tell you about our final adventures in Vava'u and more importantly my Birthday!!!. First of all I will tell you about mine and Rynn's diving. Rynn and I arrived at the dive shop very excited but also a bit nervous as it was our first proper dive without our instructor!! We forgot to warn the dive master that we were newly qualified divers in advanced but he was very accommodating and said we could stay up at the front with him during the two dives. I thinkthis slightly annoyed the group of Hawains diving with us as they were expecting a guide but there was nothing we could do !!!WE all piled ontp this little dive boat feeling a bit out of our depth but it turns out everyone was really frinedly and we were soon getting very excited. The first dive site was callewd 'Split Rock' so called because it is just off the edge of one of the small islands and there is a deep split in an under water rock, about 15m down, which you are able to swim through. Getting used to breathing under water agian was a bit weird and Rynn had a bit of a panic but after a bit of calm time we were good to go. The dive lasted 45mins and was spectacular!! We saw many different types of hard coral, colourful fish, poisonous lion fish and one guy even saw a reef shark but we missed it :( . OUr second dive after lnuch was called 'Fingers' again so called because the coral projected out into long finger like shapes. I really enjoyed this dive as it involved exploring under water caves and tunnels. We went through 3 swim throughs, one of which was really quite narrow, it was soo cool. There were lots of ledges and shelves to look under, I really felt like a proper diver by the end and didin't want the dive to finish!! I did get a bit cold though even with me shortie, body warmer and long wat suit, the Tongan guide thought I was crazy !!!
This year I had a Birthday Eve, a Birthday and a Birthday Boxing day. I felt really special!. My birthday eve was spent in the Mermaid (a yauchtie bar on the water front) drinking watermelon daquari's watching the sunset!! gorgeous!. We then had fish faita's for 2.50 and a horrible drambuie shot from the barman at midnight to celebrate the start of my birthday in style! My Birthday started with a phone call from my family and Alex. It was really nice to talk to everyone asa I have never spent my birthday away from them before. Rynn then gave me my first birday surprise, a 1hr upper body massage at a local hotel. It was bliss especially after the sea kayaking. The massage was done by an Aussie girl with magic hands. The massage couch was in a little wooden hut on a jetty on the water. It was so peaceful, I could hear the water lapping and feel a cool breeze as I lay there getting pampared. I arrived home to even more surprises, Prezzies!!! Matt and Anni gave me a frame with one of our group holiday photos in, Anna and Becca gave me a necklace and Nancy and Stu (a couple we had met) gave me a home made friendship bracelet. I was so flattered!! I was then infromed we were off to a beach resort for the day as they all know laying on the beach is one of my favourtie past times. It was lovely, at lunch time I was surprised again with a cake and 24 candles and a juggling show from Stu !!!. After a quick scrub up I was taken to 'The dancing rooster' a posh fish restaurant for dinner. I had Rock lobster, which were yummy, although a litlle messy to eat. The night ended with lots of wine, GIN yuck!! Unfotunately there was nowhere open to dance (due to the KIngs death) but we managed to have a dance back at the hostel. I was really spoilt but it did not end there on my birthday boxing day I was taken on a hired motor boat to an amazing dessrted island. Like the one out of shipwrecked!! Apparently they had to planned tp take me there on my birthday but all the boats were out!!! I have definately had a memorable birthday. Thanks Guys!!!! Thanks for all my birthday messages as well from everyone at home, love you all!!!!
Back on the mainland now. I have done my last few days in the hospital, taken lots of photos of the patients and doctors, and am off tomorrow :( I am very sad to go as I have loved it here. Would definately love to come back!!!!!
