Day 20 has been a highlight on our trip. We cruised up the first 2 gorges of the Katherine Gorge system and then took a helicopter flight over the first 8, landing on the escarpment above the 8th gorge and taking a walk around the escarpment to take in the amazing views on all sides. Katherine or Nitmiluk Gorge is in the Nitmiluk NP. The park is a wonderful asset for Australia. It is brilliantly realized and maintained. You can cruise or canoe up some of the gorges and there are plenty of walks and hiking trails. Freshwater crocodiles lie along the beaches and the 'salties' are trapped and moved on. The canoe season had just started as it is deemed safe now to canoe, the 'salties' having gone. Not sure about that. There is a lot of water there. Some wonderful rock art on our walk between the two gorges we cruised up. The art is thought to be 25,000 years old.
Regrettably, Elle, being a dog, could not accompany us into the NP and was left in charge of the caravan!
