The joy of parging is over and I experienced the most strenuous and never ending job today. Six of us spent the entire day in pairs mixing cement for the floor. Six buckets of sand...1 large bag of cement powder dragged and dumped in a pile on the floor. Four rounds of lifting and sifting to mix. Then make a well and add 1 and half buckets of water, mix and chop for a few back breaking minutes....then scoop up with shovels and walk it over to the floor guy Angelo. Then repeat. ...again and again. .. I have blisters on my hands and feet, nice 'war wounds'. Angelo is full of energy and craziness...entertaining us with his singing and dancing ...randomly coming over and dumping our fresh 'cement volcanoes' and teasing some of the bigger guys about 'working like girls'. He speaks Portuguese, almost no English other than 'yes, no and hey lady '. Then we realized he speaks french so high school french has become the working language in the cement room. Some pictures to come soon, including Angelo.
Hands-down this was the hardest physical labour I have ever done and it actually felt pretty good. And....the floor is nearly finished!

Lynn Sharer Angelo sounds like a fun guy! The work sounds tedious. Another new skill. ...you can make your own cement walk when you get home.
Carol you must have sore muscles....Muscles you never knew existed before.
Will You can now build footings for retaining walls , not to mention converse with Portuguese Mason's in French . Quelle fromage, no wait qu'll domage... Passez Le skreed stick.
