Elgin... so basically Chicago. Getting there was the first adventure. We had to meet in the lobby of the Residence Inn at 5 am... I know... gross. We got to the airport, got on the plane and waited. "It'll be just a few minutes until our turn at the runway" OK. So we wait. Then finally we get into the air and about 10 or 15 minutes into our 30 minute flight they say, "There is an odd buzzing sound being heard in the cockpit. They believe the ground crew forgot to close something. We are going to land again in Columbus." So we land back in Columbus, got transferred to another flight, on another airline, meaning we had to go through security again (Columbus' airport has a terrible set up) and then that flight was slightly delayed as well. Well, eventually we made it.
Our stay in Elgin involved several stops to the mall for one reason or another... and if i may say so myself, I am cut off from buying anything I don't need for while. A bit too much shopping was done, at least for my standards. But it was fun, and I am glad and don't regret any of the purchases, so its all good :) I also went and visited my friend Ryan in Chicago Tuesday night. We had a great time just hanging out at his apartment with his girlfriend Amy, her friend, and then Taylor and Tiffany came by later in the evening and we all caught up, ate drank and were merry. It was a very nice evening.
We opened at the Hemmens Center on Wednesday. The theater is huge, and has a gorgeous surrounding area, though the theater itself was nothing spectacular. It was a modern theater, very clearly built in the 80's or 90's. But I guess that really isn't all that important. The audiences were wonderful, and that is all that matters. Our best audience came to us on Sunday for the matinee. The theater was almost completely full, and they laughed at EVERYTHING! It was incredible! The show flew by like nobody's business. So much fun.
We also had our meeting with equity. Things went well, and though it doesn't look like I'll be able to go equity after all, I am OK with that. Most of all though I am glad that everything worked out for Pappas and Jean, because they were having some major issues concerning the next CBL that is going out on tour. But its all cleared up and life is good.
Before leaving for Madison, Katie and I decided to head into Chicago for a day. The National Tour for Beauty and the Beast was auditioning, and so i thought, why not? It couldn't have been more perfectly timed :) The audition went very well. I felt good about my 16 bars and whether anything will come of it, i don't know. But I know it went well, and that is all that matters. We then also randomly ran into someone who told us about auditions for the Marriott Lincolnshire Theater. So on a whim we both went, and that also went very well. I felt as though Monday was definitely a very successful day.
And now... I must speak about some of the food that was eaten this last week... because it was good!
1. When I was with Ryan, Amy (his gf) made hush-puppies...with squash!!! I have never liked hush-puppies, but let me tell you, these were incredible. Sigh...
2. When we have 2 show days and less than 2 hours between shows, the venue is required to provide us dinner. Well, they hired a caterer for us... its the best catering I've ever had. He told us that everything he used was local. There was a salad with fresh tomatoes and radishes and a homemade vinaigrette that was to die for, as well as wild rice, teriyaki beef (the sauce he made from scratch) Lemon chicken, and for desert, fresh strawberries with an almond pound cake. It was absolutely incredible! Sigh...
3. After my Beauty and the Beast audition, Katie and I went looking for a diner to go to for breakfast, and well we found one. It was called the Meli Cafe and Juice Bar (so not actually a diner). It was a great little place with a nice atmosphere and a wonderful menu. I ordered a fresh banana orange juice and a Feta, Spinach, Tomato scramble made with egg whites. It also came with a slice of fresh watermelon and 2 slices of fresh wholegrain bread. OK... um... YUM!!! Check out the pictures I posted. Yes, I took a picture of my food. It was so fresh, the eggs weren't greasy, and had the perfect amount of mix ins... man it was good.
4. We went to dinner with Ryan, Amy, and her sister Kim, at this place that had the biggest beer menu ever. I know, i don't like beer. I had a hard cider, which was good. Anyways, after that we went to George's Ice Cream. Before I could make up my mind, I of course sampled 5 different flavors. Ended up getting Soy Oreo and Oreo Cappuccino ice cream (decided to go with the Oreo theme) and then after that, the manager continued to give me samples saying, "Did you try this one? This is one of our new flavors, yadda yadda yadda" By the time I left, all the workers new my name, and they jokingly offered to just give me a spoon so i could make my way through all of their flavors. What can i say, I have a BIIIG weakness for good ice cream...
Now I'm in Madison...
Check back next week to find out how it all goes :)
