We woke early made a tea and sorted ourselves out before going to breakfast.
Just after 8.30am we received a call to say Phil Jeffries- our guide for the next 6 days was waiting for us in reception.
There were also some German guests in the lobby who we found out had mistakenly been loaded into Phil's car until the receptionist pointed out that they were the wrong guests!
All packed up with provisions and the chef we headed off to Musekese Camp, Kafue - a journey of around 4.5 hours. We stopped enroute for a loo break and a coffee and also to do some vegetable shopping at the market just outside the park. Rightly Phil shares his business around and goes to different ladies each time. The prevalent items were pumpkin, tomatoes and sweet potato - we bought all three together with some local greens for the staff.
Tetse fly were prevalent in the wooded areas and one got in when the men got out to go to the loo - I know because it bit me!
As soon as we got to camp we had lunch, quickly settled and went out for a drive. The camp overlooks a lagoon - which fills when the main Kafue river floods. Currently it's drying and is filled with Puku, crocodiles, waterbuck, water birds and hippos. It is also home to two prides of lion - one of the two males who services both prides walked through camp while we were out - but after being alerted we found him just as it was getting dark - despite calling no one seemingly called back - so he lay dejectedly before making a small roar, jumping up and running off - what had he heard?
Another sundowner missed through animal activity - so once back at camp we made up for it with a drink by the fire closely followed by dinner and a lovely bucket shower before bed and sleep.
