On the road again at 9:30 am - it is already 21 degrees out and sunny.
Our lunch stop was in Livingston, Montana. It was at a little row of stores and of course a casino. After we ate we went to check out the stores. Of course the Quilt Store was closed because it was Memorial Day but as Jack's luck would have it the Fly Fishing Store was open. We met Dandy and her husband as well as their little white dog named Ookie. They ran the store - told Jack that fishing was not good right now as the rivers are too high and are almost at flood state - in fact the weather for the next few days has flood warnings in it.
When we came out of the store there were 2 police vehicles their and on the back of one of them was written "Bobi". As I went into the trailer to close it up Jack went and spoke to the officers and asked about the Bobi. Turns out that Bobi is a K9 and was in the vehicle. His owner Andrew gave us one of Bobi's cards.
Arrived at Rocky Mountain RV Park around 1:45 and set up. Then we headed into Yellowstone to get maps and see a couple of attractions.
We visited Mammoth Hot Springs and Tower Falls.
Our first surprise is that at the Mammoth Hot Springs it is like a little village with restaurants, hotels, stores, Post Office. And everywhere on the grounds were elk! The Ranger told us that they breed and have their babies right on the grounds.
We took a drive on the "Upper Terrace" and were able to get an up close look at the hot springs. The smell was a little bit bad - smelled of rotten eggs - but they were really unique looking. It did seem strange to see steam rising from these pools of water while in the background the mountains were covered in snow.
On our travels today we saw tons of animals - white tail deer, elk, mountain goat, buffalo and a mommy black bear with 3 little cubs. You would not believe the crowd that gathered to see the bear - people were parking on the road!
Tower Falls is a large waterfall but apparently not the largest here. Hope to see more tomorrow or the next day.
Time for bed J
