A Late entry from a while bk...
Finally we get to leave Arequipa after hospitalisation and general madness but progress is on the horizon and a bus to puno is the plan!
We managed to jump on a real cheap bus that was around a quarter of the price we were going to pay with an other company although this would soon become evident where the price cuts happen.. It was very much a locals bus, I mean it wasnt terribly uncomfortable but at one point we honestly thought we were going to see a local farmer lady bring on her chickens with her for the ride.. We hada baby crying a pooping all journey long and the seats were slanted down to make you kind of slide off and aquire a rather dead bottom.. All the same its an experience ey lol.Just to top this off as well there was no air con and a few hours into our 7 hour journey we realised there was no toilet facilites in order! Kind of wish i was that baby now or had brought along some adult dipers.
After 7 amazing hours we arrived in Puno with not a tourist in site and were not too sure what we had got ourselves in for here but we jumped in a taxi to our hostal Q'oni Wasi where we booked into a value dorm which we had to ourselves, bit of a result at last. Our worries of being the Only tourists were soon dashed when we walked into the main square and streets residing off it, this city was bustling with people and the cool vibe and atmosphere was greatly unexpected but a nice suprise.
After some walking around and getting some food inside ourselves we gathered ourselves together to sort out our next few days on Lake Titicaca. We went to a reputable tourist shop and they gave us our options. We ended up going for a 2 day tour 1 night stay on the islands which sounded thoroughly interesting anda n experience that once again would broaden our minds. After sorting this all out we had an other small wonder and had an early night for our early start in the morning and our boat ride to the Incan floating reed island of Uros.
The island was something from a film like Waterworld, it just didnt seem like people would live on such an island and we couldnt even imagine how someone originally came up with the idea.It quite liturally was a large island made up from reeds around the lake that they keep adding to to keep it strong and stable, they showed us how they lived there and even grew crops and a family took me and mike into their home to show how they lived, a very Basic tipi like house made of reeds but none the less a very impressive site and they added bonus of a tv that looked like it was run off a car battery…. Very peculiar. We then got to take a ride on one of their big reed boats that took all 20 of us with no problems, it wasnt the actual ride that was impressive to be honest but just looking at the construction and beauty of the boat made it a very enjoyable experience.
After all this we had a 3hr boat journey to our next island called Amantani where we would meet the family we would be staying with for 3 meals and a night. She was a very short lady around 50yrs old with what seemed like 3 kids. She was very welcoming showing us around her home with walls made from Earth, it was the most indigenous and simple building i had had the pleasure of staying in and was actually quite cosy.
If you didnt know Peru massivly prides itself on its potatoes and not suprisingly that is what we had for lunch.. Around 3 different potatoes and some funny looking cow cheese that was incredibly thick and salty..We then had a small break befote meeting up with our Group again at 4pm to climb to the top of the sacred mountain where we would walk round the site 3 times getting rid of our worries and wishing for good Health, Wealth and Love. A really nice experience and as we finished the sun was just going down over the moutains in the background with all different colours of reds and oranges lighting the sky till blackness took over and it was time to decend down to our Muma for some dinner.Suprise suprise more carbs for us, we had some rice, pasta with elike a potato sauce, i struggled on this one, a man can Only eat so many carbs without meat… I miss meat….In the night muma gave us a poncho and local alpaca hat she had made for us each and we headed to the local townhouse for music and dancing.. It was all a very weird experience at the start but wer soon got into it and danced away like we didnt care… Good thing we didnt either as we looked Bloody terrible lol…
6.30AM the next day we were woke up by muma for some breakfast and what would be our final good byes.. We were off again to another island called Taquile where we would treck for a few hours seeing local lands and buildings and finally settling at a small local restaurant for some fresh trout..
The whole experience was a great one that really made us apréciate how others have to live and farm for their food just to get by. They were all lovely people who in all honesty seemed not to have a trouble in the World, was really great to see and interact with them..
So im sorry if this blog is all a bit boogle eyed and nonsense but the keyboard im using doesnt work properly and wont type what i want in to it..This atleast gives you guys a brief insight of what we got up to at this time..Love you all JR n Mike Xx
