Unlike other lakes that I fish in "Central Alberta", the fish in "Beaver Lake" are not generally caught by trolling. In this lake the best success is achieved by taking up a strategic position in the various bays and channels and casting towards shore, trying to locate the prey. When trolling, great areas can be quickly covered, exposing your lure to the maximum number of fish, this increases the odds of a strike and a catch. When casting to strategic areas, the coverage is minimized and usually the catch as well.
So it was when we again fishes Beaver Lake, arriving, Bruno and I, at about 11:00 AM. After launching the "Frog Boat", we headed directly to the end of the south channel, where the lake opens up into a weedy, shallow part. Here we usually hook into large rainbows. Today was know exception, and after an hour of casting, Bruno landed a nice 3 lb, 21 inch rainbow.
The action was slow and we did not have another strike for another 2 hours. I managed to hook and land a 14 inch rainbow, in another bay on the north east side of the lake.
We ended the day at about 2:30 in the afternoon, having had only 2 strikes, but lucky enough to land both.
