How we left:
4 hour train journey to Selcuk (TYL 25 for a short dolmus ride to train station + train)
Accommodation:
Artemis Yoruk Hotel. TYL 50/night including turkish breakfast and use of roman bath (incl heated pool and sauna)
Activities:
Walked along the Travertines (white calcium terraces with pools of water) and checked out Hierapolis (TYL 20/pax entrance fee)
Nourishment:
Breakfast of bread, cheese, olives, tomatoes and cucumber
Lunch and dinner: Chicken sandwich (TYL 2.5 each) Needed 1.5 to fill joy up, 2.5 for kev (almost filled him up... He needed yoghurt to do the job (TYL 2)).
Baklava for dessert after dinner (TYL 2)
Fun stuff:
The Travertines were cool fun! It looked like we were walking on ice but the water running down it was warm (mostly). The pools which had running supply of water were warm. There was a stream of warm water running along the side of the walking path towards the end of the Travertines... Kev and I sat down and soaked our legs.
The ruins of Hierapolis were pretty amazing. This was a Unesco world heritage site and parts of it are still being reconstructed. There was a great big theatre which started its reconstruction back in the 70s... I think they're half done... Sat down and imagined what it would have been like when the theatre was in use. The other impressive ruins were the cathedral, the roman bath/basilica, the massive as Byzantine gates, olive press, latrine and necropolis (cemetery). The necropolis had the standard looking tombs plus some round ones called Tumuli (which kev calls rondavels because that's what they looked like!)
