Josie's Giant Adventure
Koh Chang and the Khaosan Road
My fantastic trip is almost over - I fly back home tonight. My last couple of weeks have been perfect. On Koh Chang island I found a lovely beach that was relatively quiet but there were loads of backpackers and I stayed in a hut on the beach with an excellent bar and restaurant. There was a really good atmosphere. The sea was so clear and warm and the sunsets were stuning. I spent some time seeing a bit of the island on a moped, got a thai massage and mainly relaxed, got really brown (for me) and ate big barbequed prawns. Each evening the staff at the beach bar did an amazing fire show on the beach. The first time I saw it there as a lightening storm going on over the sea behind them and it was really spectacular. I met a great group of people and we had a lot of fun. One day we went on a boat trip which was brilliant. We were drinking, dancing, swimming and snorkelling. At one point we found a deserted beach with white sand and turquoise sea - perfect. Some of the lads caught squid and cooked it on the boat and it was delicious.
After Koh Chang a few of us got the bus up to Bangkok. Loads of people had told me to avoid the Khaosan Road as its noisy, busy, touristy and the accommodation is terrible. But I arrived with some people in the know so I am staying at a really good hotel. It's pricey compared to what I'm used to but it has a swimming pool on the roof and views over Bangkok. I also really like the Khaosan Road. It feels like you have to be here to complete the Asia backpacker experience. The street stalls selling food are excellent and there are plenty of good bars around the area. I've done a bit of shopping and got some suits made but mainly just relaxed by the pool.
I can't believe my 6 months is over. In some ways its gone so fast but I've done and seen so much that it feels like I've been away forever. Its been so amazing. I've experienced things I could never have imagined and met so many brilliant people. But I've really missed my friends and family and my dry white wine and I'm looking forward to being back. Thank you so much for the many messages of love and support that people have emailed. They've picked me up at low points, made me feel really great and made me really appreciate how brilliant my friends and family are - you are unbeatable.
Please can someone make sure the weather gauge is firmly turned to Spring by the time I step off the plane tomorrow morning?
See you all very soon.
Lots of love
Over and Out
