Everything gets a bit sad now. Lynn wasn't feeling too good. As we left the pool from the night before, the car was sluggish when we pulled away. We climbed the hill slowly, as usual, but when we reached the summit, Lynn didn't change up into 3rd and we were revving pretty high. I realised that something was wrong with the gears, and so we pulled over try and ascertain what was happening. She reversed ok and went into neutral, but when we accelerated it was slow and then we couldn't go faster than about 45mph without a lot of noisy revving. Our conclusion was that we were stuck in 2nd gear. We decided that where we were, wasn't very safe, and as we could still move we thought we'd carry on to the next stop, which wasn't very far. We took it slow and made in one piece, although feeling a little concerned. We settled for the night ad decided to let Lynn cool down an we'd try and tackle the problem in the morning, I phoned dad to discuss it the next, who said we should try and check the transmission fluid. We'd already attempted this, but we couldn't find the dipstick. Becci's dad Tony was in reach of a computer and managed to find someone that online that had experienced the same problems. The dipstick was under the drivers seat and if it needed topping up, then that should solve the problem. The farmer that owned the place we were stopped at, was very kind and lent me several different spanners and screwdrivers and sockets that allowed me, eventually to find the dipstick. We were praying that the fluid would be low. But to our dismay, it looked to be fine. This means it was a more serious problem. I put the cab back together and talked with Becci about plan B. it looked we needed a mechanic, so I asked my parents I any of they're friends might live nearby to help us find a mechanic. Unfortunately the one person that might be able to help was in Portugal. It was time to move on to plan C. Expect we didn't have a plan C yet. So we decided to ease the stress with a swim in the farmers pool. The farms we were at was really cool. They had about 40 fallow dear (like bambi) in a pen field right next to the camper stop, and a field with horses on the other side. There were couple of holiday lodges that they rented out on the hill and in front of that a circular pool, that was still high enough on the hill to have beautiful views of ye surrounding countryside. We enjoyed our swim and spotted a couple of red kites that had been flying over fairly regularly since we'd been there and even managed to get a picture. We dried off in the still blistering afternoon sun, and chilled next to our poorly car for the evening. The next morning, we lazed about before we deciding on plan C. Another swim and then we'd call our European breakdown cover. They were really helpful and eventually sent a mechanic out to us at about 5 o'clock. He had a little drive in it but came to the same conclusion as me. Except his had a price tag. £1500 just to take apart the gearbox and have a look. I was straight on the phone to the insurance/breakdown, but that's not covered and so the only course of action, was to head to the garage with Lynn on the back of their truck.
Bosh :( x
