Evening All....
Im sure your all just dying to know what the last few days in NZ have been like for us - so I'll get straight down to business instead of my usual dose of pointless puns and frequent abuse in the direction of a certain Mr. Jackson.
I'll start where we left off and that was stunning, sexy Auckland. Our original plans were to leave the city on the 9th but we found it almost impossible to book ourselves a hostel elsewhere, so we were "forced" (rather easily it must be said) to slum it up for another night in Auckland. We did the usual routine, a walk and a talk, a few beers and some good food. We found ourselves a lovely Chinease resturant (the chinease population of the city is astonishing!!) where the portions were almost as big as the food was cheap!! I gave chopsticks a go but failed miserabley, joshy made a far more worthy effort but in the end we both gave in and reverted to our western ways with a knife and fork. Also that evening we strutted our ever-so-cool stuff at the Globe Bar, a well known hangout for backpackers. It turned out to be a good night, mainly for the high quality of alcohol and women - however a special mention should go to the DJ that evening, who was absoloutly awesome and certainly wouldnt be caught within a hundred yard radius of Thursdays or (god forbid) Shieks. He was turning some tunes into some Chooonnness!!!(see what I've done there??)
Next day we finally made our way out of the city....just. After arriving at the bus station at midday for our departing coach that josh had booked the previous day, we were soon told by our driver that Mr. Don have infact booked our departure for the tenth of april!! A whole month later!!!!Now I like Auckland...but rlly....a month???Josh was typically red faced but the driver came to our rescue saying that the bus wasnt full that day so we could still catch a lift. Infact he told us to cancel our booking as soon as we arrived in Taupo so essentially we got the five hour journey for free!!!Josh quickly claimed it to be his masterplan!!!
We made the trip to Taupo mainly because it was reknowned as the cheapest place to skydive in NZ, however its famous for other pretty cool stuff aswell; most keyly, a absoloutly mind boggling large lake. Its the lake that greets you as you enter the rather pretty town and we were soon informed the lake is actually the size of Singapore!!!Singapore!!It certainly looked impressive and pictureesque underneath the glowing sun (which continues to follow me and josh on our travels....touch wood!!). It took around a hour for us to find our hostel being informed numberous times by locals it "didnt exist". Luckily they were incorrect, it was just intensely well hidden!!
What then followed that evening epitomised everything fantastic about being a traveller in the southern hemisphere. Me and josh were shattered after the days journey so were planning an early night just playing some cards and drinking some cans on the balcony. Then an English bloke, two danes and a german starting chatting next to us having some vodka. The long and short of it was that just an hour after planning our "early night" we were heading into town with about eight or nine guys and gals from every area of Europe planning to get well and truly "on it". The ports of call were Mulligans Irish Bar and The Holy Cow club where vodka red bull doubles were about three quid a go. And, it gets better, there were dancing poles on the tables. Nuff said!!!All in all a very good, and boozy, evening.
Note to self. Never, ever, ever skydive with a hangover again!! Me and josh were both a tad forlorn the next day and jumping out of plane at 15000 feet should not be done in an attempt to settle the stomach. Fact!! Nonetheless the jump was absoloutly amazing, your see from the photos and dvd (when this bloody connection finally let us upload them!!) that I cant stop smiling for about an hour previous or after the jump!!It was brilliant and worth every cent without a doubt. Josh was typically terrified, but all credit to the big man, thats one hell of a way to conquer your fear of hights!! We celebrated our success in style that evening with another night out - it was just the english though, these young Europeans have no drinking stamina!!! Shame on them.
Today we came to Wellington, the capital, as one of our regular blog readers will inform you relentlessly!!Paul aka the english bloke has rented a car for his stay and it was rlly fortunate that we could hitch with him. He's a london "geezer" and without doubt the most flirtatous human being I've ever met, but a right good laugh, and he'll be staying with us whilst we're here. We were all a bit hungover for the duration of the five hour drive but cured our bangin heads the only way I kno how - McDonolds!!!These long drives I keep mentioning you probably think are a bit hellish - but thats another great thing about being here - every mundane task, from a doing the laudrey to driving in a cooped up car for hours, is awesome because we're not doing these things in Fratton or Lavant (not that I ever did laudrey!!), but in bloody New Zealand!! New Zealand for god sake......and that is unbelievabley cool!!!
Looks like we're gonna be here for a few days, our hostel is pretty plush, bang in the city centre!!Few bars again tonight probably, acclimatize ourselves to things!!!Basically, New Zealand has treated us well so far and long may it continue!!!
We're get the SkyDive pics/dvd sorted asap and I'll write another blog probably when we hit Christchurch in the South Island.
Hope everyone's keeping well! Its been a pleasure.........
Quote of the week - "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Josh and I reaction to freefalling from 15000ft.
Beer Test - Bite 9/10 I bloody love this stuff just for the pure ingenuis concept alone. Snakebite on draught!!!Thats Snakebite.....on draught!!!!!!Its just brilliance and I am ashamed that us English didnt think of it first!!!
