At 8.30am Liz, Mel and I headed over the road to the market for breakfast. Liz grabbed the last of the waffles which she'd been hanging out for since her last visit, whilst Mel and I opted for fried noodles - arroy mak mah! (or very delicious! in English).
Then we jumped into Nat's car and headed for the pier where a longtail boat was waiting to take Liz, Mel, Nat, Tui, Bodhi and I to Ban Lion - where our homestay is to be later in the week. They were keen that we ran through the itinerary and understood what was happening, and for Liz and I to get the lie of the land before the group arrived later. It was a positive and productive session - we met the homestay families and saw the rooms and were shown the community centre along with the project centre. This project is in its infancy but there is so much goodwill and desire from the people in the community to make this work.
With tides, wind and rain conspiring against us, we waited on the island until 5pm-ish to be in with the best option to return to Kuraburi pier. It's rainy season so the wind can whip up without warning and the rain can come down in sheets. I was pleased not to be in a boat as the squalls came through.
That evening after a quick freshen up, we headed to Bodhi's house, where his new wife of less than a week - Tu - cooked us an amazing dinner - once again, arroy mak mah!
We polished off more than one bottle of beer between us and out came some of Bodhi's moonshine to finish off the evening, which was spent discussing a wide range of subjects from politics to natural disasters and white water rafting in the Grand Canyon, before bedtime.
