Hi everyone, I have been so busy lately, hence the reason why I have not made an entry in ages. I am in Singapore at the moment, right at the end of our tour and tomorrow we leave for Bali. Since my last journal we have done quite a bit, visited Krabi, the most beautiful place I have been to so far, crossed the border to Malaysia to visit Penang, Cameron Highlands, Kualar Lumpar, Melaka and now finally Singapore. It has been quite a hectic schedule and the poeple we are with are awesome so I have been pretty much non stop.
After Bangkok we went to a place called Krabi, stopping off to see some floating markets on the way. When we arrived in Krabi the first thing you notice is the heat, it was so hot. Then you wonder down to the beach and it was a bit of a let down. Not really what we expected. there were boats lined up for people to visit the islands that were not too far so the immediate beach to us, half of it anyway, was sacrificed for tourists. That said, the whole afternoon we spent chilling out in the sea and playing frisbie so cant complain really. We have been really lucky with our group for this tour, there are 6 other 18 year olds, so everyone is well up for a good time out. Our tour leader is cool too, shows us all the good places to go to and gets just as drunk as us. The first night we went to a bar called lunar bar and it is awesome, right on the beach, cheap buckets of drink and tourist central. It is the perfect place to party. The next day we went on a tour of the islands on a boat which we all hired out. It was done with a company before you think i was driving. It was absolutely incredible, the boat drove us somewhere and we all went snorkelling on the reef. The sun was hot, water clear as anything and loads of wicked fish. One type attacks you, they are tiny but they go for your goggles, it freaked me out a bit but doesnt hurt in the slightest. We went to the island where the beach was filmed, I cant really explain how amazing it is, just wait for the pictures.lol.
After Krabi we went to Malaysia, Penang to be precise. We didnt spend very long in Thailand, 6 days, but I know that it is a place I can easily go back to. Malaysia was different completely. Our first stop was Penang, which was pretty boring. The weather was boiling which was a plus but all we did really was go to a snake temple in the whole day. Everyone was pretty knackered from the night before. Also the price of alcahol was really high so that made it a bit crap. Next on the list was the Cameron Highlands, where we had awesome accomodation. We had this appartment type place and everyone stayed in there. Except this guy called Darren who is a k*** anyway. We loaded up the beers and watched movies all night, it was brilliant. The next day was amazing too, we went on this trek in the rainforest ( mossy forest), then went to the butterfly farm, but it was more just a general reptile farm. Our tour leader was cool, picking up all the animals and I held a scorpion, and it was poisonous!!! Not deadly apparently, unless you dont see a doctor in a couple of hours. The Cameron Hoghlands were really cool, the weather was much cooler, rainy and cloudy, but we were so high up, we went to the highest point in the cameron highlands and we could see absolutely nothing, I am not sure if the Cameron Highlands are the highest point in SE asia though??!!! I almost forgot to say we went to this huge tea plantation, absloutely massive, so i had a nice proper cup of tea.
Next on the list was Kualar Lumpar, which was the second most successful economy in SE Asia, after Singapore. It was an amazing city, really modern. We went to KL tower on the first day, which was 435 metres high?? dont quote me on that one, but the view was amzing. Unfortunately after that we succombed to the lure of the Hard Rock Cafe, the first one I have ever been in. It was really good and although it was expensive, I didnt have to eat dinner (my god i am interesting). We also went to the aquarium there and i put this shell fish on my hand, it was like when you put a hoover thing on your skin and it sucks it, it was horrible. The next day we went to these huge caves that had been recommended as really cool. Obviously the guy was blind because there was nothing good about them at all. They had been ruined with tacky Indian worship things. Kualar Lumpar was really different to everywhere I had been though so far because although I had been to big cities, this one was really developed and it could have been in England, however, it had a sky train which was majorly cool. It travelled over the city on a suspended rail.
Our last place in Malaysia was Melaka. It was a small little town, with a china town, a little india and some cool museums. We woke up early to visit the 'peoples museum' where they had different perspectives of beauty, tribes and things like that etc. It made a good point when it said, why is it any different injecting yourself with plastic (plastic surgery) than it is piercing yourself all over with metal. After that we went on tour round the town, walking along the river bank. Followed up by a cool visit to the waterpark. It was about an hours drive but it was so cool. It was right next to this golf course which looked amazing, I would have payed anything to play there. The weather was so hot it was lush to get into a water park, just chilling out on the slides.
And finally we are in Singapore, the strictest 'city state'I have ever been into. However, I think it is quite cool If you cross the road within 50m of a crossing, and you dont use the crossing, you get fined about 300 singapore dollars, about 100 pounds. $200 fine for chewing gum, fine for loitering?? It is funny but everyone does as they are told. If there is a red man but no cars coming, people still dont cross the road. They wait for the green man to come up.lol. We went round Orchard road which was cool, loads and loads of shopping places. We went into Gucci and Armnani shops just for a laugh, the price is ridiculous. Neway that is about all I have to say, excpet that we have arranged to all meet up in Australia with the poeple we are with now, so that is cool. And also I got my eyebrow pierced, you'll see in pics soon.
love you all.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
