Ok a quick recap of the past few days...
The girl Andrea that was meant to travel with me to Freiburg never turned up to the train station or returned my messages. In spite of this failure I took a train to Dresden for 20 quid and have spent the last 4 days here.
When I first arrived it looked like a beautiful city, I slept on the train and opened my eyes to a city-lit river, it looked simply amazing. Next I took a walk through the city to find a guitarist from the Czech republic who needed a new set of strings, of course I was happy to oblige in return for a few hours of conversation. I then ended up spending the rest of the evening talking to some rasterfarian, latin guitar playing weirdo who wanted to take me to prague to meet a "friend" of his who plays saxaphone, return to Dresden then go to Spain to form a band and take over the world. Needless to say the next day when he called me, I didn't pick up the phone.
The next day was also spent in dismay as I found no-where to sleep the night before and ended up going to a coffee shop and catching four hours of sleep in there. The day followed with awful busking and I was really losing my faith in Dresden which I had been told was good for busking.
The following day I realised why the busking was so bad. I walked through the town and got the really touristic part with all the old buildings and whatnot. There was 6 buskers there ranging from musicians to living statues and every single one of them was not enjoying themselves. You can see it in their faces, they are just playing for money, the music drones on and on. It's completely uninspiring. However it turned out to be very beneficial to me, after watching all these performances I went out in the even, the last hour just before the shops shut and played my usual set of songs, but this time really made the effort to make people see I was having fun. They responded and after one hour I had 20 quid in my pocket!
Yesterday I went out with the same idea in mind but picked a really bad spot, it was away from the noise of construction work, but not enough people for me to make enough money. Today I rectified that by finding a fantastic spot that has not been taken advantage of by the other buskers. Outside a shopping center with a huge glass roof for me to take cover under when the rain comes. My only competetion so far is a man made waterfall nearby, but I'm loud enough to counteract its effects :p
Ok I've only got a few seconds left on the interent where I'm staying, I wanted to write a story about my sock but that will have to wait for next time. Until then :D
