Boxing Day - funny though coz there's no hangover ! Great day, so there was only one thing for it - the beach ! Sun was really shining so me and PJ decided to go for it. Down from Sunfactor 30 and striaght onto cooking grease at sun factor 20 - what a bleeding dum mistake ! Sat in the hottest sun from 11am to 1pm and I was well engrossed in the sights and my book, that i didn't feel or notice the old rays soaking in. Had a few goes at trying to swim but it was just impossible, the waves were breaking about 10 feet off the beach and were so powerful that you got pulled under and ended up about 10m down the beach. The lifeguard helicopter was out and passing by every 10 minutes hovering about 20m off the waves looking for idiotic swimmers to rescue. PJ got pounded by a monster wave after bravely attempting to go past the wave break point - didn't try that one again ! Me neither for a matter of fact ! Great day only made better by the fact that we noticed yesterday that Lord Jim's was putting on Premiership football - Liverpool v Newcastle. Trotted off to watch that, got there and found that we had missed the first half - bloody typical ! Settled down for the second half and then I perservered and watched Chelsea and Fulham as well. Got back to the hostel about 6pm and found my skin was feeling a bit tight (had that feeling before) this was also greeted by the chorus of "you've caught the sun today". Wasn't overly concerned until I took off my t-shirt and everyone looked a bit horrified...Jonny had done it again - Sunburnt ! Back, arms and especially feet. Got loads of aloe-vera and also looked at my pink pal PJ who'd managed to do the same thing. Typical brits but at least we didn't do it in Benidorm ! Went out for a meal at the most exclusive Kilo self-service restaurant in Ipanaema - I was practically glowing by now and feeling a bit worse for wear coz of the sun. Went with Phil, James and the Bolton girls. It was an all-u-can eat buffet and then waiters bring out meat on skewers and slice you a bit off if you want it. I managed my normal pigeon size meal but was glad I went as I have never seen any women put away snap like the three Bolton lasses. They would seriously test old Jacko, and that guy can snap at the best of times ! They must have plated up at least 8 times - go on ! Early too bed on this one - winceing and feeling sorry for myself....I'll never learn !
